i think my heater core is dead, and i really dont want it anyways, what steps do i take in removing it and/or plugging it up? what do i need to plug or do in order to successfully do this?
oh yea and what sideeffects does this have besides no heater?
The easiest way is to remove both heater hoses from the firewall and intake manifold and replace them with a single hose; thereby removing your heater core from the loop.
Besides not having any heat, there are no other side effects.
BTW, I've seen heater bypass caps for small block chevy's, eliminating the need for any heater hose at all; not sure if they make them for a 5.0 or not.
This is where im at now.. Stering column dropped, center console out..dash down a bit..still have to pry it back some, then finish the swap and hope it goes back togther!
If you are set on not having a heater (which might hurt you if you ever want to sell the car) I would just bypass it. It isn't worht ripping the whole dash out just to remove it.
selling isn't really an option right now, and the winters here aren't bad at all, this isn't my daily driver, this car having a heater core is useless to me. do i rip it out or bypass it? how much does it weigh (is it worth the hassle to drop some lbs.?)
The core itself isn't very heavy. Unless your car sees constant strip duty and you need to shave another .01 second off your ET, I'd leave the heater core where it is. Perhaps at a later date you'll have another reason to take the console out, at which time you can change or remove the heater core.
