Give me some stroker advice.

Sometime soon I would like to start building a stroker. Hopefully you guys will be able to give me some information. My dad knows everything about engines but barely understands fuel injection but he will claim to know everything about that too. He has a 500hp '70 Roadrunner that he has built the last 2 engines for so I can trust him with most of the work. I think I'm going with a 347 instead of a 331 because even though it puts more loads on the block I won't be revvin it to the moon. I want this car to maintain good reliability because I love to drive my car. My intentions are to have a fun NA car but will handle boost when I get around to it. Here's my rough draft:

1. Production block magnafluxed, bored, and clearanced for 347 stroker
2. CHP Pro Street 347 Stroker Kit
3. My original plan was to rebuild my motor and put afr165 heads edelbrock performer intake and e-303 cam in it but i figure a stroker will need more than that so would afr185 heads and a performer rpm intake be more suitable?
4. 70mm tb, 24# injectors, new maf like pro-m, probably some good roller rockers
5. I guess I should invest in a tweecer too because I don't know of any shops around my way that know much about our cars.

That's all I can think of now. I know I should invest in a stronger block but it's all about the benjamins. Remember this is a basic rough draft of a build i want to start. Feel free to add anything you want or tell me about your stroker or anything. Thanks a million.

forgot to add: wut kinds of numbers can i expect from a healthy stroker? I'm looking for at least 300 to the rear wheels NA and 500 with boost.

With boost, you really need to look at an aftermarket block. If you are going strickly N/A you can get 400 rwhp, with a stock block and be reliable at that.

Here is how to do it....

- CHP shortblock (347 with the 1.175" piston/5.315" rod)
- AFR 185 58cc heads
- Holley Systemax II or Edelbrock RPM II intake
- Custom camshaft from www.flowtechinduction.com - $325
- Scorpion Roller Rockers, 1.6
- 30 lb injectors
- 80+ MAF
- 70mm throttle body
- 1.75" headers

Try to run around 10.5:1 compression, if going N/A and maybe a bit more if you would like.

Ed Curtis, @ www.flowtechinduction.com, can get you almost every single part if you want it.

You can get 400 rwhp and depending on level of suspension and track, you could easily see 115-117 mph.

I say ......

All motor 347
or
Boost on a 302 or 306
but
NOT both stroker and boost on an oem based block

24's are too teeny weeny for either

For an all motor 347 I'd go to 36's ... but ... since they are getting hard
to find ... 42's could be made to work

You could have a nice all motor 347 with 400 to the wheels and very
good drivability.

You could do the same or a bit better with a blower on a 302-306

There is just no need to push for that kind of power on an oem block
and for street use.

Not saying it isn't done and can't be done
but
IMHO ... it doesn't seem all that practical

I mean ... Really ... Most say at around 450 to the wheels ..............
An oem block is living on borrowed time

I found 36# injectors on Summit.... Trick Flow Brand for like 300... Nice to have the middle covered there....

BTW ....What would be the HP difference from 9.5 to 10.5 compression....wouldnt 9.5 provide you with like stock drivabilty??

The driveability would not increase necessarily, but you would need higher octane gas.

The camshaft would need to be tailored to the compression of course

I'd like to point out all inj's are not the same

I'm not saying there is anything wrong with that brand

I'm kinda partial to the FMS (Bosch) brand like you see more commonly used.

My reasoning is based from a Self Tuners kind of perspective.
Since most use that brand ... the info posted by them is gonna be more
helpful to me if I use the same brand.

Other brands have different delivery rates, spray patterns, etc

I'm with David on amount of squeeze not having much to do with
drivability.

I have come to believe this kind of thinking based upon what I've done
and the things I've seen others do with pcm access.

You can pretty much tame most combos you would see put together that
have a street and strip application :Word:

I'll even go this far out on a limb here

That even goes for cams that are more radical than the average
Stang enthusiast would consider

Working with the pcm can do wonders for a Stang with nasty
behavior traits

Man I really wish the stock blocks were better. Really disappoints me.
