Which for a tko 500? I used Royal purple but heard GM makes the best tranny fluid. Have to change it because the instructions and everyone else says to change it after the 500 mile break in period. Also how many quarts do I need? Thanks guys any help is appreciated.

The new TKO's will take either synchromesh or ATF. The older 3550's and early TKO's took only synchromesh.

All other tremecs take only ATF

I think I will might be safe with the royal purple that they gave me. I bought it from a Ford Racing Dealer (Tommie Vaughn) and they gave me the tko, bellhousing, and oil all together. I don't think they would give me something wrong.

If you were planning on shelling out the cash for something real nice like Royal Purple, try some of the new synthetic Synchromesh. I got some from my local Chebby stealership, and it was a little over $13 a quart, but it made an amazing difference. I am using this in the MTX75 that is in my beater Focus, and it made a truly incredible change in shift quality. This isn't the standard stuff they keep out on the shelves, either. This stuff comes in the new Vette's tranny, and the guy had this stuff behind the counter.

I would use the Royal Purple for sure. I have been useing Royal Purple
everytime I change my transmission fluid and I love this stuff!
It made my transmission run smoother and quieter after I changed it.
I will always use Royal Purple!
The new TKO's do use Synchromesh or ATF.

Guys using RP, did you have any clunks in your box and if so did it reduce those?
