Going back to NPI intake

I done this pi intake swap a year back, and first time I did it with PI gasket and RTV silicon, and it dint seal up right, so I done it with adapter, it fine but still smoke, so I put some of the coolant stop leak, and it stop smoke, but when I get on it from stop and go, it blow some smoke, and some time in 4k miles or so, i have to put another bottle of coolant stop leak cause i lost coolant, any way, Im plan doing NPI intake swap on my 98gt swap, should I have to change out all my PI coolant tube stuff ? or just stray swap ? thanks

Your doing something wrong. I used new Fel Pro NPI gaskets and just a tad of RVT and have had no problems at all. Dont ever go back to the NPI, pull the PI and do it again.

Doing it with rtv in the first place is wrong!!! I have ported npi heads and I had the coolant passages welded just a little bit so the gasket could do what was designed for and it only costed 60 bucks.

You sure the intake itself hasn't got a crack in it somewhere? Its possible you're doing it right, but the intake itself is bad.

Many have RTV'd the ports with no problems but he has the plates so you point is moot.

Killa...where are you getting smoke? Can you tell where it is coming from?

That could be a number of things. Is it a little or a substantial cloud?

If you have the plates then you should have both PI and NPI sets of gaskets. NPI on the bottom and PI on the top. It is pretty straightforward as far as the install. You just have to make sure the gaskets stayed in place.

oh **** !!! r u sure i need both gasket ? cause i just put the adapter on top of the head and add PI gasket on top, **** dint know i need both gasket, is this true ?

YES, YOU NEED BOTH GASKETS!!!

Dam I been driving like that for years lol, wonder why I keep loosing coolant lol . Felpro gasket any good ? and do i need any rtv ? thanks

Wait a second....you need to use 2 sets of gaskets, NPI on bottom and PI on top? I just used a new set of Fel pro NPI gaskets and a little RTV, I have about 2k on it since the swap and im not losing coolant

you need to use both gaskets if you use the adaptor plates. If you just use the pi itnake alone, you would use one set of gaskets and silicon

Yes, you meed both. No wonder you are losing coolant.

I'd pick up the gaskets from Ford but I've no experience with the Fel pro.

You don't need RTV BUT I used it to tack my gaskets in place to keep them from moving around. Just a little dab in a few spots to tack them down.

Im too lazy to take every thing apart yet, I alway need a car to work, any way, something keep bother me, that I bought the adapter from HPS

cause at the bottem of that adapter is having some kind of paper, fiber glass ? I dont know, doest any one here doing this swap with HPS adapter with both gasket ? Im about selling this mustang ( tired of stick shift, I will tell why in another post ).

Normaly you could re-use your NPI gaskets on the bottom side. That's probaly why they say you only need new PI gaskets.

Yes...you can reuse your NPI gaskets. Don't put it off though. You need to get it fixed as soon as you can.

9:00 PM I feel crazy, I rip the intake apart , I cant beleive how simple its after second time doing it.

1:00 AM Update ! I put tiny little dap of copper rtv ( all my black rtv is dry up ), just to hold the gasket and adapter in place, Im plan to leave it over night and install the intake tomorrow.

3:38 AM update !! I put every thing back together , NPI gasket on the bottom of the adaper, and PI gasket on top of the adapter. , torque intake to 18fb, recheck and recheck every thing, in the morning I will put in coolant, ( what is good coolant I should use ? ) and HOPE IT NOT LEAK. Wish me luck guys.

***KKKK it ****ing leak on the driver side back port, Im tear every thing apart and using black rtv on all the coolant port.

Update, Im waiting for my gasket to be dry, I find out their is missing bolt.

BTW do I need another coat of rtv on top of the PI gasket ? its ok to put another coat of rtv on top of the PI gasket and the intake ? thanks

this is on passenger back coolant port. do I need a bolt for it ? thanks

Good new and also very bad new,

Bad new that I break one of the intake bolt, while I torque 18fb

I can take it off, but I have to take all my gasket and adapter off , I dont want to do that, im plant to let some one drill it out and put in another bolt.

Good new that after I redone every thing, put 3 layer to rtv around water port,
1 under NPI gasket,
1 on top of NPI gasket,
1 on top of the adapter,
1 very light coat on top of PI gasket, between PI gasket and intake

after refill coolant, I saw no leak any where

Im still worried about that bolt I break off. and How long do I need to wait until I crank the car up, I let the RTV on at 5:00PM , tomorrow I neeed that car at 11:00am to go work, can I crank the car up around 8-9am or so ? thanks

You'll be OK to drive after 12 hours for sure. I drove mine the same day after about 8 hours.
