Well, as some know, I've had the ring and pinion replaced twice. Then I had a whole new axle assembly installed in the 07 to rid the clunking and whining coming from the rear. I've had the car back for over a month now, and put about 1500 miles on her. It's now worse then before it went to the dealer. Now it clunks worse, whines louder, and now whines super loud on decelleration. Really bugs the hell out of me, considering the car's got 5000 miles and had this much work done to it. Although, I am very glad the dealer is trying everything to remedy the problem for me, I'm still getting frustrated that I spent all this money on a car that sounds like a dump truck. She's going back on Thursday for I'm sure will be atleast 2 weeks again.....

back to dealer...

I would not be happy with another 2 week wait time. This should not happen to a car with 5000 miles on it. Lemon laws? Can your dealer give you a new car? (yeah right)

I sure hope this sort of thing doesn't happen to me or I'll really make a stink.

Best of luck getting it fixed this time.

I feel for ya!

My car went back to the dealer on a flatbed, at 115 freakin' miles for a toasted pinion bearing. First they tried to replace the pinion & bearing, but the bearing bonded/welded itself to the axle housing, so (thankfully) they are replacing the whole axle.

I would start raising a stink at this point. You can be polite about it but I'd be more aggressive at this point. You may want to escalate to Ford Customer Service as well.

The dealer has been really nice about it to this point. They haven't said anything about my BMR lower control arms, although they couldn't be the problem, so I'm not bitching just yet. The lowers did cause the noise to be much more pronouced, but my thought is Ford tried to fix this problem with the super soft bushings they installed in the control arms... putting arms with poly bushings brought the problem back. I remember in late 04, early 05 when I worked at a dealer... there was at one point 5 or 6 05 Mustangs in getting new ring and pinions...

It's Wednesday night and NO car. Called the dealer at 5:30 PM and my service advisor explained to me that the technician installed a new set of 3.55s and it is still not to their satisfactory.

I asked when it would be done, and he explained that he did not ask the technician because he "didn't want a wrench thrown at him" LOL. I understand! He said the technician is so fet up with my car that it's driving him insane. Tech's been doing rear end work for over 20 years and has never had this kind of problem before. So I do not know when/if it will be done. The service manager and a couple other technicians went for a ride in the car and don't know what the problem could be. The service advisor said he will look into it and most likely they will be sending a Ford Rep out to take a look at the problem.

Can you say Shelby GT upgrade for my trouble??

but its too bad this is already a replacement rear end that is worse than the original at this point you have to wonder is another replacement reaer end would actually fix the problem. it is true, a new part can sometimes be defective, but it does make you wonder...

The rear end in the car right now is already a replacement rear end... that still made a ton of noise. I think the car is haunted.

Well, I just got the car back from the dealer. They stated they needed to reshim it and it works perfect... on the way home it sounds great. No more clunking or whineing. Very happy, although it took three sets of gears, and WHOLE diff assembly, and a reshim to get it right.
