Basically it makes your car feel 500lbs lighter. The way I like to put it is that 2nd gear feels like 1st does right now, 3rd feels like 2nd, etc. It is a very noticeable increase in fun & makes it much easier to roast the tires from a stop.

I just got my 3:73's in yesterday.. Much quicker. However I still am in the break in period so no burnouts or hard shifts. But I would go for it. My problem is that now that my car is running at 3000 rpm more often than it was at 2000 rpm I think I have either some knocking or an exhaust leak... :-(

But I would still do the gears again no question?

I have them in mine and am about to swap them out because of the Turbo. If you can wait until the end of April, I will these to you. These have about 3k miles on them. PM me if you are interested.

There is no break in period on gears. Either they're on right or they're not. If there's no whining or such, roast your tires and don't look back. Well, except for the damn gas being so expensive and having to buy brand new $150 tires. Ok, maybe just take it easy.

I know there is a different opinion on the break-in of rear gears.

From a cold start you put two heat cycles in them but not at cruise speed. You vary the speeds but do not put them in a heavy load or stress condition during the break-in.

I've always heard about this method and the guy who installed mine gave me the same procedure to follow after he installed mine.

Just thought I would throw that info out there for who ever wants it.

You can plug in different tire sizes, speeds, rpm's and such to see what ever you want to know about gear ratios.

Have fun with it.

OK Matt

I ran some numbers using 65mph and a tire size of 245/45/17 as an example.

273's 4th=2322rpm & 5th=1571rpm
373's 4th=3173rpm & 5th=2127prm

With the 373's you can see you will be turning a little bit less rpm in 5th gear than you now are in 4th with your 273's.

Fill the tank and drive until it is half full, fill it again and divide the gas used by the miles driven for an approximate answer to your Q. Don't forget to stay in 4th gear when in cruise during the test.

You should do better with the 373's as the test will be off by a couple hundred rpm's.

I was sold the day i was doing jsut this, driving in 4th to simulate 4:10's on the highway and I ran into my buddy with an '02 GT Convertible. Well he got on it and so did I. I kept up from 80 to 115 when we both got off it.

He ahs more mods than me so I figure he wasn't trying... well he was... The next day I was gear shopping... And yesterday I got my 3:73's. Pretty soon I can start leaning on it a bit...
