Going to the 1/8th tonight, give me tips please

Ehh,, not a couple tenths... you need to move 100lbs + to get a couple tents fast and moving a spare just isnt going to do it. The ice bad trick is *cool* and all but it really isn't going to give you a couple tenths either. At least from what I've seen at the track.

But from looks of ur mods and ur former times... A good sticky tire and decent driving will land you a 8 second timeslip no doubt. So good luck bro :nice:

Thanks, I just got the itch to see 8's, know what I mean. I guess I got bit by the bug bad... So spare tire and jack, drop the air pressure in the tires a bit and ice the intake... not going to amount to much???? I'm going to give it a shot regardless...
by the way, like your avatar...

Ah-Thank-you... not many people notice it.

What you mentioned before will help a little. BUT very very little. I wouldnt really worry about the air pressure unless ur running a slick/dr...

The thing is, your car has the ability to see 8's without those. So, if you hit 8's tonight don't make yourself believe it was because of the ice and spare tire removal

IF* you can manage to get a good clean launch and bang the gears well, you will drive home tonight with an 8... Ur car has the potential. So, put some time aside for praticing launching and powershifting (if you really wanna get it down the track).... Driving well, will do much better than ice and chucking a spare.

Remember. the best mod to ANY car is a good driver :nice: Got it?

Thanks for the tips... I really appreciate it. However, apparently my car didn't feel like playing today. After my second pass (which I missed 3rd on and totally screwed up the pass) I headed for the pits for a cool down. The track was horrible tonight and my first pass of the night resulted in spinning 1st and 2nd bad... So anyways, after second I headed for my pit for a bit of cool down. I raise the hood and what do I find? Collant spraying out of a pinhole in one of the hoses... I'm like WTF?!??!? So I let it cool down, then leave. By the time I get home it's 9 something. Car wasn't leaking too bad when I left, but by the time I got home it was @ a pretty steady stream... I estimate it drained about 2 gallons on the way home. Of course of all days it would happen on this day. My other car (corolla) is in the shop because the dealership didn't torque the crank pulley down correctly after having the timing belt replaced, so it fell off and the car isn't due back until tommorow afternoon. I have my last final of the semester tommorow @ 9 and then I also have my first day at my new job (making 40k starting  plus overtime if I want, plus Christmas bonus, and it's out at 4 so I can continue school) so I can't be late. Naturally no auto store or garage is open at this time. So I rigged a garden hose to work in place of the stocker. I believe it's the return line from the block so I'm hoping it works at least until the end of the day when I can get a new one. I used heavy duty garden hose so at least it's thicker. I let it run for about an hour with no leaks. I poked it and prodded it and it seemed to hold up fine. We'll see tommorow I guess... Anybody wanna take bets on whether I make it to my final, pass it, and then show up to work on-time? *sigh* what a day...

Ummm, losing the spare and icing the intake WILL help you get closer to the 8's Take it from the guy who wanted to touch 7's and ran 8.00's. That SUCKS. You should be running 8's already. You need tires more than anything probably.

You would be very suprised at what a GOOD cool down can do, not just put a bag on there for 10 minutes and go drive it through the lanes off and on. Get two or three bags, ice the upper intake and the airbox. Let it sit for 30 minutes or an hour. Once it's REAL cool, take the ice off, crank the car drive towards the lanes, turn the car off and coast in. Push the car through the lanes and then make a run.

It will make a difference, especially compared to hot lapping it or idling through the lanes the whole time.

The spare and jack is 35-40 pounds, thats a couple hundredths possibly, so keep that in mind if you run a 9.000. ;)

I just looked at your time and MPH and they are both low but Im guessing the cam isnt helping much at all with the stock intake and manifolds. You need to get the 60 ft's down, if you pull a 2.0, thats probably 8's right there. You might need to work on the shift points too.

Im guessing the b cam is probably slowing you down more than likely at this point.

Wrap the hose in electric tape for tonight or bypass it.

You could perhaps pick up some tenths by putting 40 psi in the front, pulling off the front swaybar, and removing the pass and rear seats, etc.

I have run with 50 psi in the fronts before, if you have ever speed skated, you will appeciate rolling resistance and how getting rid of it makes you move faster. ;)

Pull the front sway bar, take the dog bone off the rearend, take the sound insulation out of the hatch and under the rear seats.

Thanks for all the input guys... I think you're right about the cool down. I ran the 9.084 after about 30 minutes of cool down... next time I'm going to ice the intake good. I really want to get solid into the 13's on street tires before I start looking at new rubber. I just want the bragging rights of running easy 13's on crappy rubber... After all that I'm gunnin for the 12's, with lots more parts of course...
