going turbo instead

looks like its going inbetween the alt and the turbo, then I'd say straight back to where ever it meets the DP.

Mike, mind if I try out your tig one of these days when I'm up there? Curious to what its like.

I have a couple of questions:

- will a 1st gen DSM BOV do the job for my setup? I'm thinking it will.

- what, if anything, should i wrap with this heat wrap stuff i circled below in yellow? sorry, i don't remember the correct name for it. just the downpipe? the crossover?

i think oink went "dark" because he is moving. i hope he gets the check ok and ships out the hot side soon ...

But I have a couple of questions while I am waiting on the hot side:

Yes, 1st gen DSM BOV should work fine for you. I believe they can support around 15lbs of boost uncrushed.

I would wrap your downpipe in your engine comp. I havent yet wrapped mine...and the underhood temps get extreme!!! If at all possible, get a heat shield or turbo blanket. You may have a bit less heat than me, as I have an extra turbo and downpipe...which means less room between all components.

update: oink's package was delivered to my office today ... too bad i'm at the beach to open it up! i don't get back until friday and i may not be in the office at all next week either, so it may be 2 weeks before i even see it.

more questions:

will 50' of header wrap be enough for the crossover and the downpipe?

for the oil fitting, i use a punch like this to make the hole in the pan for the oil return fitting? i drill a small hole first, then stick this in and bang on it until it is just barely big enough to use the tap to make the threads, then wrap the fitting with plumber's tape and screw it in, right?

I've heard of people putting in the fittings in the pan that way before... It should be fine.

For the header wrap I just bought a little box of it from a local speed shop. Dont know how long it is, probably 50' so that should be fine. I still have some left over too.

I used a 50ft of 2 inch black Thermotec to do my crossover and downpipe, and had a good bit left over.

You can use a punch on the pan for the fitting, but be careful, if you tap it even a little bit too big, there is no way to make it smaller again ;)

Depending on your preference, you could always just have AAA tow it for free (assuming you have AAA) to a place and have a bung brazed on the pan. Might cost you a few bucks, but it will be cleaner looking for sure.

not to get off subject or anything but in Oklahoma thatd be a 250k house not a 900k one.....
:stupid:

thats no where near big enough where I live to be a 900k house unless its sitting on 100 acres. It looks nice, but I'd want a lot more for that kind of money

Wow your rich, i dont see a car garage on there tho. Congrats on the new house. What do you do for a living.
i do not at all consider myself rich. i just live in an area where the houses are way too expensive. rich people can easily afford houses like this and still have money left over for a M5 or a SL500. i have a 10 year old mustang, (don't get me wrong, i love my stang like crazy), but if i could afford a M5 and i could only have one car, i'd sell the stang in a heartbeat.

i'm a software developer. i do ok, but i'm not rich, believe me. if i were, my car would be like JR's.

no garage. my wife says we can either build one or i can work on my car in the driveway.

finally got around to opening up the box a few days ago. everything made it fine, but there are some scuff marks where the pipes must have rubbed against each other during shipping and the paint sort of scraped off. no big deal, it will most likely be wrapped anyway.

the housing fits fine, so i guess it is a p-trim after all.

i have had no time at all to start working on installing it because we have been looking for a house, and a contract we submitted on sunday was accepted on monday. so now we have to sell our house right away. all my time has been going into getting it ready to show. the list of things to do is 3 pages long. ugh. there is ALWAYS something else more important my time has to go to, it seems like i will NEVER have time to work on it. :nonono:

so with all that and the fact that the new house has NO GARAGE, i am considering selling the turbo setup and the 1995 stang and buying a newer stang vert that doesn't need as much work as the 1995. a buddy at work has a friend who is selling a green 1999 4.6 vert with 70K miles. it has a cobra r bumper, saleen wing, 19x11 rims with 315 tires, and a few minor bolt-ons. very clean. he is asking $15K for it. i think i could be happy with that, especially if i can get it for $13K ...

yes it does.. it also clears most other things, which makes the install much easier. With some kits you have to relocate ALOT of shi*, I designed it for ease of install and made sure everything flowed smoothly with no sharp bends.
You would need to finish the exhuast end of it though, with a custom Y pipe after the downpipe ( no big deal)
