Going With TFS-Additional Upgrades?

The kit was originally made for 87-93 mustangs. It isn't the intake that hits, it is the EGR Elbow that hits. That is why you have to raise it.

TFS heads are only stud mount. Pick up a set of fms 1.6 rocker or something similar. 3/8" for TW and 7/16" for track heat.

You need autolite 3924's for your TW heads not 24's.

i've been looking at that same setup for a while now. every time i get the money put back for it some minor tragedy comes along. i already have the tfs upper & lower, so i had planned on priming and painting mine and selling them on ebay when i got the new ones that come with the kit. same thing for my heads, cam etc - to recoup some of my expenses. i planned on upgrading to 24 lb injectiors and getting the matching sampler tube for my c&l, buying fuel rails then just tuning it as i went along. i think the 70 mm throttle body would suffice, since you would probably have to do a radical fuel/power adder/boost upgrade to see much of a difference between the 70 mm and anything bigger. i also planned on going from 3:55's to 3:73's or 4:10's w/a 8.8 traction lok rebuild kit at the same time. talk about some nasty burnouts.

I thought you could get a kit to convert them to pedestal? (why anybody would do this I don't know however)

I'm pretty sure I use 24's in mine. That's what was recommended to me. They work just fine.

If you're using autolite 24's thats the WRONG plug! You NEED repeat NEED autolite 3924's. They have a longer reach which is what you NEED. I've had TW heads on my car for near 5 years so this ain't hear say ;)
 
Don't forget to biuy your tweecer!! Then you can set all of the engine parameters and fans/egr/timing/ speed linit etc!! There's a guy on this site that has a base tweecer you can buy and later upgrade to a R/T if you want datalogging..hint..hint..:stick: :cheers:
 
It will run without the computer work, but mine had a problem with stalling while putting it into gear.....I did get a speed shop to tune in with a laptop, I was not there so I am not totally sure what was done. They did show me that the stock spark plugs that I had in were to short and took pictures. There are some things that will cause you to second guess the set up, I did, but I am so glad that I did it, I am awaiting the final upgrades for mine and after that decide on self tune or a custom chip. These guys on here are great with helping with this kit and advice.....I do you do need work on the computer to get the most of this kit. To answer a few questions, my firewall on the hood does touch but I have no probs closing hood. The spacer for the intake you will have to order.
While dealing with Summit one of there techs told me that Trickflow is owned by Summit.........The first thing the tech told me to do was to check the throttle position sensor.....there are threads on this site that spell it out.......

How far into the combustion chamber are they supposed to protrude? Mine sit just about flush with the roof, with the electrode sticking out a bit. I am almost positive they are 24's, as that's what somebody recommended to me. (I seem to remember them using them as well) Are there any ways to tell if the spark plug is too short by pulling it and looking at it?

Yes. The cam that comes with the kit was engineered for Fox Mustangs, and gives our computers fits. Many on this site have used that cam anyway, and had fine results - though I think most do end up using an EEC tuner (TwEECer or PMS) or getting a custom chip. I went with the FMS B-31 cam, and run fine - though I still plan to get a dyno tune with computer eventually (for best power and further refine driveability).

I bought mine like a month or so later, and my kit did not come with a fill neck. Drilling the VC is no big deal.

This thread is becoming a pretty good list of all the required other steps and headaches. So this is really about as bad as it gets. And all in all, it's really not that bad. With a spacer the hood will still close, and the EGR will fit. And if you don't wanna tune right away, look into another cam. TFS will modify the kit for you and substitute parts if you already have or don't want something (they did for me anyway, and all I did was ask).

Just read up, and if it still sounds like too much for you, then get yourself a shiny shot of Vortech power!

The 24's only half the threads as the 3924's. The 3924's is the correct plug for aluminum heads. The double digit series 23, 24, etc. are for iron heads.

Clarification on the EGR. You may still need to modify the bottem of it to get it to clear the VC. But you can do that with a dremel tool. I didnt have to do anything to mine. I can't remember if I have the 3/8 spacer either. I got whatever TFS and SUmmit told me to get.

I can't say whether your line from the header to the EGR will fit either. I went with LT headers, and mine definitely did NOT fit. But I don't know about shorties or stock. I plan to fab up a copper line soon. Not a big deal either.

Everybody and their dog has been running this kit for a while now so there have been a good amount of threads about the results. Some have said they had no drivability issues and others have had more than their share of them.

When it comes to drivability issues

Some are way more forgiving of little things that drive other peeps crazy.
For quite some time now, I have suspected it is these peeps that seem to come across and say things like ......................
"I've bolted every hot rod part known to man on my car and I've had no drivability issues what so ever".

I've seen two cars with very, similar combos act totally differently as far as drivability issues are concerned.

I say this about that ......................

Plan on a tune
and
if you don't need it great :banana:

however

If you don't get a tune ................
you will wonder if you left power on the table :rlaugh:
