Well I've always wanted to learn to ride a cycle. My dad has an old Honda in our shed told me one time if I learned I could have it. My mom also used to ride and had a Yahama Enduro. It was at my grand parents till they both died. Then my bro in law took it to his grand parents. He was gonna fix it up and all that good stuff but never did. I asked him about it one time and he said if I wanted it go get it. I wasn't about to drive over there and take it. Its getting warm and gas is going up got me thinking again so I called him up tonight. Wanted to know if he was going over anytime soon so i could look it over. So now that his grand parents both passed away he has some stuff in their barn that he wants to get out before his family starts going through stuff. I said I guess I should bring it home then huh he said yeah so nothing happens to it. So the plan is to go over Saturday and pick it up. I'm pretty excited. Not sure much about it like the year or anything. I think its like a 250 but don't remember. IIRC it looks like this. I found this on a site that says they are like collectables now lol.

Any tips for a new rider? I'm excited but also kinda scared I don't wanna get hurt lol. Is it like riding a bike HA HA

Wow man, that is gonna be one old ride. As long as there arent any cars around, you should be ok (those bikes werent particularly fast. I think of them kinda like driving a Model A on the street). I think it would be fun though.

Good luck with it.

Holy crap dude I have one of those in my garage. Wow, that is a trip.:nice:

1968 DT1 250cc Enduro was the first real dirt bike! And yes they are worth a lot now.

And sorry to say, but that bike can bust your balls in a heatbeat...

Be carefull with the cotter key, when those things fail it is a cluster f***.

ha ha wow never expected anybody else to have one. Talked to my mom a little bit ago she said it was like a '69 and it was a 125 she thinks so I was off with the 250 so that means its even slower.

Hence do you have AIM or anything that I can hit you up on after I get it if i need any help beings you seem to be the master lol

Tomorrow I'll snap pics of my 100 (With new tires I need to mount...:bang: ), and the torn down 68 block, I am currently swapping engines due to a trans neutral problem.

You just motivated me to get off my butt and finish the 100! :hail2:

ha ha sweet man glad to help

Well I don't know a damn thing about bikes. This thing hasn't been started in god only knows how many years. I figure new plugs, new battery, check the gas tank for any junk in there and clean it out somehow if there is, Fill it up and see what happens.

Any other idea on things I should check let me know

I hear ya Paul thats one of my worries. my cousion got pretty ****ed up a while back on a bike. Lady pulled out in front of him he made it and still has the bike in his garage. I don't even think he rides anymore and if he does he goes down the street turns around and comes back.

My grandmother is the one thats gonna have a pissy fit. Everytime I mention a bike she freaks out and says I'm gonna kill myself. She has rode with me in my car so she knows I drive like a goof ball lol.

I even asked the gf if she would have a problem with me getting my cycle license. She said not as long and you wear a helmet. I said ok then she said if i can drive my car and not die I can handle a bike LOL (not sure how they compare but ok)

If you find rust in the tank, it might be time to Kreem it. I had to do this on my first bike (kind of a restomod thingie). Otherwise, you will continuously have fuel issues.

Good luck Jinx - and that's really cool that Hence is all into those things too!

do you mean as in get rid of it and find another one or is that actually something you can do thast called that
Oh no, dont toss the tank. Kreem (IIRC that's how it's spelled) is a cleaner/coating that you put in the tank if the inside of the tank is rusty. Otherwise, little scabs of rust break free and clog up the petcockand rest of the fuel system.
Once the inside is coated with Kreem (haha), it's as good as new (I had a really good experience with it personally atleast). But I had to ask around (this was long before internet) to find out that even such a product existed.

Good luck!

oh lol ok thanks. Do you remember where you got it and how much it cost? Was it hard to do?

Yea, I had to de-rust the tank on the 100. You take the two bottle system and let the first bottle soak in water for a number of hours 12 hours IIRC. Then you etch the inside with the other bottle for 12 hours too.

Comes out with no rust, simply amazing, and no more loose particles, and dust to clog your fuel system.

Here are resto tips:

1. Take Carb apart - Rebuild (Might need a new gasket set)
2. Buy a new fuel tank gasket set, it will leak for sure.
3. Buy a new air filter, or make one out of foam, wrap it around the filter housing a few times
4. Take the mag cover off, and file down the points a bit, clean them with contact cleaner, make sure they line up with the stroke.
5. New Plug (NGKR for sure)
6. Check those tires, I bought replacement tires for my 100 for under $25 a piece.
7. Replace the fuel line rubber hoses, and small carb hoses

I'll think of more in a bit. :nice:
