i also have a question about 347 strokers. i heard that the pstons are so small that most of them blow alot of oil? jw
A 3550 is a good start for the money. There are other companies that upgrade T5's, but by the time you're done you could have bought a TTC unless you do it yourself and you work for free. Gotta figure your time in there. If it runs great, it's definately a good buy. Why are you in such a hurry to do a stroker if it runs good now? Build the car to handle the power first. Take care of your suspension, braking, bracing, etc... otherwise you spend all your money on the engine, and then stuff starts to break from the power and you're broke too. That's your call though, just my $.02... yes, the 347's have a notorious reputation for oiling problems. However, over the years most of them have improved tremendously, and some kits like the one from CHP have completely eliminated it by design. Not much of an issue anymore, unless you go with the cheapest kit you can find. Like I said earlier, you get what you pay for. Do it right, do it once, pay less in the long run. First of all satisfy yourself that this car is a good deal and get it into your yard. Then decide what your goals are for it, and make a plan. From there you can make intelligent decisions about the mods you should do, and the order to do them in for the best results.1990gtstang said:what is a good tremec, or can i somehow beef up the t5? it runs beautifully its jsut the trans thats bad, it just had a tune up and its an all stock(down to the air cleaner) motor...

Of course i did the paintjob myself so all i paid for was material and the engine swap took me a few weeks with the limited time i have between work.. and well work.carphreak2356 said:Nothing is as good of a deal as i got.
Well.......I got my 1985Gt hatch with a rebuilt motor, K&N filter, Accel coil,
welded subframes,oil cooler,stereo,275 50's and 225 50's on stock 10 holes,
headers with catted MAC H-pipe, LX style cat back with flowmasters, cowl mounted 3 piece gauges and dash mount tach, and also aluminum pedals. The doors and hatch needed some love but came with another pair of doors and hatch to boot. The only downside to the car was the pass seat started coming through the floor and the clutch was on its way out prior to the purchase. Body wise it is a sunroof car and the roof proves it leaked pretty bad and had been fixed with bondo.......a no no for my car and it will repaired properly with steel, it is some not easy work but I feel the price justifies the work needed. The car has not let me down and I have spent hours under the blocked up car and considering i live in Canada where they love to use salt, besides minor rust...

no hidden surprises...oops I forgot one leaky brakeline. I am in the process of
restoring this car removing parts one at a time to clean wire brush and paint
them down to cleaning and oiling each bolt. I plan on putting any performance
mod within reason as I comlete this project. I wish I would have taken pics
from the start but I never realized with digital and a computer how easy it is
to save and print all for free. As for the price.......$375 Canadian
That is about $225-$250 American on any given day ,I think I lucked out
and since the guy offered me a nice big tach with shift light for dirt cheap
I had to accept that too. The car is now registered to me and is 100% legitimate.
Considering the exhaust system alone is $1000 American plus tax I figure it
is worthwhile to slowly build this car into something I will appreciate and
enjoy for a long, long time, and with the money I didn't pay can be spent
doing it the way I want, with no sacrifices...it has been a great experience
so far but as I said I want to do it right.
I just had to tell my story cause of the quote I hope you find a good deal
and good luck.
