Good find with a big dissapointment......

Thats what im going to do. The machine work on the block with the price of the new piston and ring and then the price to completely go through the heads and fix that mess up is going to be around the same price I can pick up another engine with 70k on it.

Its all good. I actually just came across an 03 crown vic engine with 96k on it for 450.00 through a friend. That way I get another set of pi heads and I can just swap the cams into it and put the new valve springs in those heads. Hopefully all goes well.

For sale 92K mile 1993 Lincoln Mark III 32 valve all aluminum engine. This is what I am looking at.

That would be my choice to use as a replacement engine. The 4 valve Lincoln engine is the same basic engine as the 96-98 4 valve Cobra engine. The heads alone would be worth the $300 if the engine was running good when it came out of the donor car.

The "head tick" is a pretty common occurrence with early 4V engines. They had issues with the valves around the number 8 cylinder overheating because of limited coolant flow in that area. Later 4V-'s got a coolant bypass in that area to circulate some of the stagnant coolant. In any case, don't let it deter you from what could be a good short block...especially if you're going to replace the 4V heads anyway.

How much is the guy asking for the engine?

hes asking 300.00 for the engine. But If i do it that way I still have to take my heads to the machine shop, have the valves replaced, surfaced, and fix that one cylinder where the valve messed it up where as if I just buy the crown vic motor it will be together, No head work required except for my mods, and work fine. I also believe the 93 short block will require me to drill a hole for a water jacket in the heads or something like that and I am a little concerned about CR with that short block having dome top pistons and not dish pistons. And valve clearance as well.
