Well i went out and got a Hurst Billet Plus shifter for my 95 Vert and from what it says all over the box and from what i have heard from everybody i asked about it..easy installation..Piece of cake they say. OK so i get home from school about 9:00pm and i decide to install it thinking i would be done at the latest 10:30...Boy was i wrong. It is now 2:00am and i have just put my car back together WITHOUT my new shifter in. Needless to say, Im Pissed.
I get everything taken apart right down to the stock shifter and im thinking i would be putting the new shifter in within the next couple of minutes but i CANT GET THE STOCK SHIFTER OUT!!! In the instruction manual it says to just pull it up and out after you have removed the four hex bolts and that i may encounter a little difficulty removing the stock shifter due to the adhesive applied at the factory. Difficulty is not the word my friends. I yanked on the SOB for 2 HRS and it didnt budge a hair. What do i do now!!?? How can i get this thing loose? Has anybody encountered the same problem? Please help guys, any help is much appreciated.

Kris

Sounds like a good testimonial for RTV...that some tough chit...

Try taking a putty knife or something thin like that and drive it (gently) to get between the shifter base and tranny....Sounds like you just need to break that RTV seal then she'll come right up....

I agree, sounds like its sealed w/ something that dosent want to budge. After you break some of the seal you should be able to get something under it like the end of a screwdriver, see if it will pry up then.

Sounds like ford used JB weld on your shifter . Do what Rio said with the putty knife.

I had one stuck before, I got under the car & used a long extension & a hammer... I hit the extension on the bottom of the shifter plate, it came up after that.

Thanks guys..Im going to try the long screwdriver approach from underneath the car and see if that works..In the instructions for the shifter it says to inspect the little cup the shift "knuckle" seats in, and replace accordingly. I have read several write on the shift install yet nobody has said they replaced theirs yet..Is this something that is usually replaced during a shifter upgrade, or am i safe to stick with the original? I was doing some yaning on the shifter and i probably would have yanked harder but i didnt want to break anything. What is the actual name for that little cup? Where can i get one and what does it cost?

You guys rock. Thank you

Kris
