So to anyone interested in my rubbing issues... looks like rolling the fenders finally seems under control. Spent about 4 hours... didn't go perfectly, some cracked paint (but we're going to sand and repaint the affected areas and get at some nasty scratches while we're at it), but driving it afterward on city streets I couldn't get it to rub.

The reason I only got to try it on city streets was that the transmission seemed to be coming in and out of gear very easily (starts revving a few hundred rpm like normal, then seems like it goes into neutral without the shifter actually moving, and sometimes re-engaging... repeat). Outside getting the thing rebuilt, is there any thing I can try that might solve this little issue (or could it be anythign other than the transmission that I'm not considering)? I added half a quart of fluid and it made no difference.

So... how much for T5/Tremec swaps? Heh...

generally two reasons why the trans pops out of gear;

1: worn synchronizers

2: bad front bearing

number 2 can have a bad pilot bushing as the cause. dont ask how i know.

Next time try cutting the paint along the lip so when it cracks,it wont go past that point.:nice:

How much is a T5 swap? As cheap as you want it to be. I got my T5 shipped for 250, and dropped another few hundered on misc things like the crossmember/bellhousing/cable clutch conversion......

You can get everything you need from the junkyard, with the exception of the pedals and maybe linkage

I THINK, and this is a guess from his signature, that he currently has a C4 trans. I can't really diagnose problems with those. If you had a stick I'd say look at your clutch for slipage in this case.

So what transmission DO you have in your car ?

i missed that. ok then adjust the bands, and replace the vacuum modulator.
