Well, some may know that I seriously ****ed something up yesterday. My drivetrain has been acting real strange lately, and yesterday something let go. I had to have the car towed to Ford to see what was wrong and I dreaded the thought that it was my transmission. Well, I get a call today with the diagnosis: I only completely shredded my R&P gears, tranny is fine! The guy said I need new "spider gears"? What are spider gears? Im pretty familiar with stangs but have never heard this term before. Also said I needed new bearings?

Anyway, I just about laughed in his face when he told me that it would cost me between $1200-1400 to fix. $1400 for replacing some broken gears?! That cant be right.....right? Anyway, Im going to have the car towed to another mechanic for a second opinion.

TO tell you the truth, Im actually happy its the gears....NOW I CAN GET SOME 4.10's!

What's a torson T2 and how does it not wear out a clutch?

I'd just get stock replacements and 4.10s, but I'm a cheap bastard. If you dont have any radical aftermarket pieces, you don't need radical rear end pieces.

I found a brand new 8.8 diff for $170. Is that the complete diff (including bearings and such?) minus gears?

Well, everything's taken care of. Brand new complete differential with 4.10's (overnight delivery) and intalled for $500.

Compared to $1400 for the stock gears and bearings intalled from the Ford dealership.

Why oh why do they insist on trying to rip people off?

They sure seem to like that $1,400.00 number when they have to muck around with the gears, huh?
