Good paint job price?

Hey everyone. I love my car, and I want her to be perfect. I can't stand knowing anymore that the paint has flaws, scratches, dings, dull spots, and key marks from the previous driver's run-ins with others. I want to get her repainted this summer, probably after the headswap, and I want her to be totally redone (no overspray or anything like that) in the same color, Rio Red. How much could/should it be for a good total paint job in Rio Red on a '98 GT? If anyone has estimates, please let me know. Thank you.

At least that. I was a production manager at a large body shop. A paint job is some thing that truly follows the saying: you get what you pay for.

True, you get what you pay for, if you are able to remove the paint yourself, that will save you some $, for painters, painting is not that difficult it's mostly prep, paint removal, and tapeing the car. Want to see a SICK paint job on a mustang. Check this out $4,500 flame paint job

Got a tutorial on preping and paint removal? I'd rather do that myself to learn since I can't afford to get all the paint supplies yet

If you're going through the hassle and expense of having your car painted... why don't you go with a non ford color. Then you would have a truely unique stang...

The price depends on how much time is required to get the car straight, and how perfect you want it. I had a car done two years ago and it did need about $1,500 worth of body repair (a little rust and a large dent in the door and other misc dings). This was a color change so the jambs/trunk underside had to be painted too. I took the whole car apart, sanded it down to the factory primer, then dropped the car off. The final job was $4,800. I got several quotes from EXCELLENT shops and they were all around the same. State your expectations up front and see what cars they can show you that they have done at the quality level you want.

I just had some minor body work done on my 2002 V6 Stang that the Ford dealership covered for free at their expense because the bent the pinch weld seams underneath the rocker panels. The minor body work cost the dealership around $350 to $400. It would of cost me probably over $500 if I had to pay for it myself.

Anyways, I asked the body shop owner what it would cost to repaint the entire Mustang the "RIGHT" way. He said that it would cost $3,500. They would have to strip the entire exterior of the car to do it right without the car having any overspray on it. And this price figure was "WITHOUT" any body work. So, if you also have any body work done to your car, the price would be around $4,000 to $5,000 at the most for a professional job.

By the way, the body shop I worked for paints for Saleen. I was QC for every thing that left the shop. Saleen was very picky!
