I went to see an old buddy of mine and while talking to him about my project, i found out he had a disc brake swap that i was looking for. He thought the were off a mid 70's granada. They are 11 inch rotors and i got the spindles, rotors and calipers. He basically gave em to me but i want to replace the calipers and the rotors, how do i tell what year? I cannot find and DXXXX marking on them no where.
Also a question to those who have done the swap, What else is needed? What brake lines do i need?
What tie rod ends do i need?
Do i need the tie rod adjustment sleves for a granada?
Any thing else or any tips is very much appreciated..!!!!!

Thanks alot!

The parts are interchangable from year to year. I got all my parts for a 75 Granada, though I don't think the donor car for the spindles was a 75. I got all new rotors, calipers, pads, and flex hoses new at the parts store. You should also get a small length +/- 6" of brake line to go between the stock connection of hard line and the flexible brake hose, as the flex hose would otherwise be stretched beyond safe limits in lock-to-lock turning. I believe I used the granada sleeves and tie rod ends, but to be honest, it was so long ago I just don't remember that detail. I believe that there is some difference in the sleeve/tie rod end area if the car has power steering. Good luck and nice find! :nice:

You need an adjustable proportioning valve, and it would be best to get a dual resevoir MC. The old "fruit jar" MC is less safe, and arguably does not hold enough volume to be applied with disc brakes.

My buddy has a '68 coupe that he put the Granada discs on, but left the dual drum/drum MC. It's a Strip/Street car (sees more strip than street) and it was hella hard to push in the lanes and didn't stop that great. Chassis guy said he really needed to change it to a disc/drum M/C and he did. SOOOO much easier to push, stops a heck of a lot better too. I'd suggest replacing it.

I ran a set on my old 67 with 4 wheel discs with a non power MC from a 71 Galaxie ( or rather Custom 500 ) This MC has a larger bore 1 1/16 vs the Stangs 7/8. Also I'd recheck those rotors and spindles, the Granada/Monarchs had 10.5 inch rotors, the Full size cars got the 11 inchers.

also can i make my drum/drum Master cylinder work with the disc brakes beacause that one is only 1 month old on the car now. Also what a bout a proporting valve?

If you are converting to disc brake... wont you need to switch the master cylinder to a front disc/rear drum to make it work properly, so you wouldnt be able to make your front drum/rear drum master cylinder work with this setup?? am i correct... anybody... bueller... bueller....

I converted my '66 this past summer using '78 Granada stuff. I'm using a '67 disc/drum MC and no booster with the stock Granada proportioning valve, working great so far! I too had to switch out a newer '67 drum/drum MC to do the swap. Anyone need one? Hardly used at all.

Yeah, otherwise the front disc brakes will drag a little. There's a reason there's a drum/drum M/C and a disc/drum M/C.
