Ok I am getting my first 4.6 modular GT this weekend. Black with black leather, 5 speed, 52,000 miles, garaged winters. Paid $6300, but it needs some trim pieces, tires and it has no mufflers on it. Needs about 1500 in parts so it really cost me about $7800. Still a fair deal I think.

First mod...exhaust. MagnaFlow (not open to debate, it's what I'm getting) becasue it's going to be my everyday driver. I can't have DroneMasters or MAC as they drone also. Second mod...3.55 gears. I already have them and they are free. If I had free 3.73's I'd use them.

Planned Mods....
UPR Shifter w/ Cobra Leather Shift Knob
UPR Clutch Quadrent Kit w/Cable
BBK or DPM Speedometer Calibrator
FRPP Mach 1 Suspension System
17x8" American Racing Polished Torque Thrust II Wheels
255/40R17 Tires
17x9.5" American Racing Polished Torque Thrust II Wheels
285/40R17 Tires

I'd say your over paying! KBB.com

Sounds alright to me, but I would definitely spend the extra money and get a set of gears. 3.55s won't do anything and you will eventually brake down and buy new gears so get it over with and only do the install once. Have fun with her and get some pics up.

:nice:

I looked at KBB and I looked at NADA and I looked in the dealer edition of the NADA book.

In NYS the average loan for this car with it's condition is $8900. Besides you haven't seen the car. Aside from 2 inexpensive trim pieces (already found them used), the car is spotless and I mean SPOTLESS. For where I live it's no overpaying. It's not cheap either. It's a fair price for the area.

You may be right about the 3.73's, but I worry about gas milage with the current state of things. I've read the threads and I get 18-20 mpg with my modified 90 GT wiht 3.73's, but I'm hesitant to 3.73 the 4.6. I'm just not sure about what to expect with a 4.6 and 3.73's with everything almost totally stock. I don't plan on much mod's beyond wheels, tires and lowering. My convertible is my toy, this is my driver.

Here's a pic that's EXACTLY the same as what I bought. I'll have my own pics soon hopefully.

I have 4.10's in my daily driver, 3.55 would be a complete waste. sell the gears on e-bay and buy something else.
I have had 4.10's in ohio winter with no problem, with 4.10 you can easily start in 2nd gear as well (tourque multiplication is only slightly less than 2.73 1st gear) My gas mileage went down 1.5mpg to 19mpg mixed driving. I have flow masters and the motor spins at 2700 at 70 which works out great because its above the rpm where the drone happens.

i think you are getting a fair price, but IMO keep the stock gear or go 4.10 anything else is a waste of money (unless you are getting a turbo or blower) you will thank me later.

my car is just bolt ons and will get a 13 second timeslip on the next time at the track, ran a 14.08 in crappy track & weather.

In NY, the cars cost far more than they seem to do down south. With my 3.73's I get 18mpg around town, 20 mixed driving and at least 24 on pure highway.

That's encouraging. My daily drive is 50 miles round trip. 90% of that 50 miles is highway exit to exit. Im ight do another 50 miles but it's a mix of highway and country and city. I'm hoping ot get 20 to 22-ish mpg. My F150 gets just 15, maybe 16 on a good day.

I could very well do 3.73, but 4.10's are out.

Price, sounds fair. The list of mods sound good too.

Congrats on the purchase - should be a dependable and fun daily driver.

FREE always works for me ... besides when you upgrade the gears beyond 3.55 you can add that something else to list to justify the work. :nice:

Do you not use overdrive, because this doesn't sound mechanically possible.

If I sell my convertible and get a bit of a wild hair about more power I’ll do the following…

PI Top End
Comp Cams Cams
C&L 80mm MAF
C&L Inlet Pipe
C&L Elbow
75mm Throttle Body
Steeda Timing Adjuster (can this be set with a computer tweek?)
Steeds Under Drive Pulleys
FRPP Headers
MagnaFlow Catalytic X-pipe

OR

if Kenne Bell ever gets around to it, I’ll just drop one of there kits on top of what I have with….
C&L 80mm MAF
C&L Inlet Pipe
C&L Elbow
75mm Throttle Body
Computer Tweek

Some thing doesn't add up then. Your car looks to have stock sized 16's. Stock 16's are 225/55R16, which are 25.7" tall (same as the 17" 245/45R17). 4.10's at 70 mph in 5th is 2550rpm with your tire height figured into the equation.

Now, 4.30 gears would turn just under 2700rpm at 70 mph in 5th.

Here's the equation I'm using.

(Gear Ratio X MPH) / Tire Height X 336 X 0.68 (5th Gear Ratio) = RPM at a given MPH.
