Well, looks like they are replacing everything

2nd gear
3rd gear
1-2 synchro assembly and blocking rings
3-4 synchro assembly and blocking rings
1-2 shift fork and rail
3-4 shift fork and rail
nifty fill level sticker

They are recommending 3.0 liters of tranny fluid (0.75" below fill hole)

TSB for modular intakes was free for any pre-98 gt with 7 year 70,000 mile limit, roughtly twice factory warranty

I see mostly 01-02 owners with the problem and very few 03-04 owners. I have 14,500 miles on my car and it's the original T-3650. No grinding here, just a little notchy on the 1-2 and 2-3 when it's cold and/or rainy out. Obviously there are guys with transmissions worse off than me, but could i bring it in complaining of notchiness/clunkiness and expect it to get fixed as well or do i need it to really be bad first?

This is the question I'd like answered as well. I have no obvious issues with the 3650 in my 02, other than being a bit notchy on the 1-2 and 2-3...very notchy when stone cold. I sit in the garage after starting it and swim thru the gears a couple times before pulling out, otherwise I really don't have any great issues with the trannie, but it can be notchy, especially the 1-2, even when warm. I'm kinda resistant to Ford (the guys who left my wife's 01's fan unplugged causing it to overheat!) tearing my trannie apart...I don't want it worse than when it went in.
Ford, where quality is Job 1...or sometimes 2, 3 or 4 on a Friday afternoon and 5 or 6 on a Monday...7 if it was a holiday weekend...etc, etc, etc.

Ok, another question on the warranty. Will they be able to do the work if you have an off-road midpipe? Can they work on a vehicle with no catalytics?
Also as stated above by others, My tranny is only bad when cold going from 1-2 and 2-3 and the rest of the time it is fine. Will people like myself be eligible for this service?

My 1998 GT's trans is notchy between 1-2 and 2-3, and the occasional grind when cold. I see on the TSB that it says 2001-2003 Mustangs. Will mine not be covered? I still have warranty on my car through 75,000 miles or November this year, but I haven't taken it in yet.

greasy urs is a t45 and it will not be covered. I own a 03 and my tranny does find except in cold weather! Im going in for the tsb

How long of a repair is this usually? Im guessing I should also remove my tri-ax shifter before I take it in also.... Also i was wondering about the throwout bearing, and if that is covered under warranty

My 04 is in for an exhaust manifold leak right now, I'm picking it up this afternoon and I'm going to complain about the 1-2 shift. Will keep you posted.

Thanks for posting those twogts4us!!!

I've experienced the jump-out from 2nd several times in cold weather. I can't decide if I want to take it in and let them potentially screw it up.

Someone give me the number to call ford and bitch. They need to fix all of these transmissions even if they are out of warranty. I didn't buy this car to stare at it in my drive way, I bought to drive the hell out of it. I don't have my owners manual with me at the moment. This TSB bull**** is stupid.

Don't you see, Ford knows that most of the vehicles that are experiencing this problem are either 2001 or 2002's. The 3-year 36,000 mile warranty is either long gone or about to be, unless you have purchased an extended warranty. They seriously do not expect to have to "fix" very many cars. It makes perfect since from a business standpoint...they own up to their faulty product without really having to correct it. win, win for ford, lose, lose for us

Correct me if I am wrong, but this is for the TR-3650 and were installed in mid-year 2002+ cars (edit: Even though the TSB is for 2001 - 2002 cars). The only issue should be is if the cars are under 36K...

You are right. TSB's are not recalls, nor extended warranties, nor hidden warranties. They are nothing more than helpful service tips from the factory to dealer service.

However, fed law (the Magnusson-Moss Act) does protect you if you complained about the exact problem during the warranty period, and can document it. Basically, the law prohibits a manufacturer from "stalling" until the warranty runs out and then saying "tough". This is true regardless of the TSB being issued.

If you have the documentation which clearly shows that you attempted to have the exact problem fixed during the warranty period, and any dealer refusing to now (finally) fix it, just file a complaint with your state's Attorney General's office claiming a violation of the Magnusson-Moss Act.

It is not simply a case of the dealer being "nice"; its the law.

Just to note, if you don't have any proof that you complained during your vehicle's warranty period, then the TSB itself will get you nowhere with the Magnusson-Moss Act.

mid year '01 and on so relatively few '01s should be out of warranty right now.
