Got a TSB # for TR3650 Grind!!!!!!

Just look at the warranty paperwork. It should say bumper to bumper or drivetrain and there may or may not be a deductible as well. Mine is for 7 yr/75,000 miles with a 50.00 deductible.

What if they can't duplicate the problem (obviously being summer) but it happened in the winter time will they still cover it? I have 28k on the car and 36k is going to come up REALLY quick.

I just had my 01 cobra in for the 1-2 grind they are saying that it is possibly a burnt clutch or a pressure plate problem.. (I gave them the TSB#) they said we can take out the tranny and look at it but if it is a clutch problem then it won't be under warranty. If it is a pressure plate problem it will be warrantied? What should I do here I don't want to get stuck with paying for a clutch replacement which I think they are trying to do so I would have to pay for it. Plus how could the clutch be burnt it only has 13000 miles on it???

Any help and I would appreciate it? Besides if the clutch and pressure plate were going wouldn't also be hard to shift into 3-4 and 4-5? Which that part seems to shift fine??

I think Im going to wait until it gets cooler and until this fix is common practice to the dealers. Plus Im going to put in the stock shifter and need to order a new lower shift boot since I cut it putting in the Pro 5.0 and I lost one of the original shifter bolts. I have 20k miles so I should be ok and its not horrible in the heat anyway.

Be upfront and honest. Tell the service rep that the problem only happens in the winter when it is cold. Therefore, they will not be able to duplicate it in the summer. I would think in most cases, a good service rep would be able to handle the situation in the right way.

If not, just get it documented. Have them write up the complaint in detail, and state that are response was "can't duplicate". As long as you have that paper, you aren't bound by the quickly upcoming 36K rollover.

Im with a few of you other guys on here. I worry about Fords ability to do the work right. They havent been able to fix any of the problems Ive ever taken the car in for anyways. I dont have the grind you guys do, just a very notchy feeling when going from 1st-2nd and 2nd-3rd. Got worse feeling with the Tri Ax since it has less rubber to dampen the feeling. I also have an aftermarket clutch and tob, along with the shifter. I have 25000 on my '03 so its still under warrenty so to speak. Could they still be required to fix this regardless of all Ive done to the car? I have saved emails from my talks with the head Ford Tech at an NC dealer, so I have background of this before I did any of my mods. Just curious

Hopefully, there will not be a problem. A reasonable service rep, will most likely do the repair.

However, if Ford really wants to push it, to all extremes, and pull out the legal "mods are evidence of abuse" card, you might not have recourse. Federal law allows them that out, and it might be too difficult for you to counter prove you made those mods, but never used them. But, that is really taking it to its furthest extreme, and you would really need to piss someone important off, for them to want to go to that extreme.

So, when you bring it in, be really nice. Bring a few fresh donuts to share with the "guys". It should be OK.

Guess it wont hurt to call and ask the dealers around here if they have heard of this and when/if they will do my car . Ill be super nice... Ill even tell them I wont mod it any more

lol.. won't mod anymore..

I'm going to wait until winter as well and show it to them so there are no "that's normal on everystang" bs... I'm just glad that they finally have a fix for this problem

Lighthouse Ford in Falmouth Ma. ordered the kit and will do the warranty work. No mention about my Hurst shifter being a warranty issue. Yahoo!

Ok I have a question. I also have the 2-3 notchy feeling when I shift sometimes. When everyone is saying "grinding" is this an actual loud grinding sound you are hearing, or is it something that you are feeling in the shifter?

With it being warm/hot outside now it's just a feeling when shifting, but when the winter rolls around and it's cold, you can hear the shifting as it's very loud until the tranny warms up.

Does it sound distinct, like the grinding you would hear if you missed a gear? Is this the sound or is it quieter that that?

Mine grinds every time if I powershift it, is that normal operating procedure? lol Do I take the car out with a tech and poweshift 2nd to 3rd to show him it grinds. I want these new synchros bad, but I haven't really noticed the problem unless I'm high in the rpms. Does this matter? I think it does it with a normal clutched high rpm shift too though.

Do not hear a grind at all. It is just not a smooth transition between 1 - 2 gear when cold in my 2002GT.

same here, no grind just not smooth or easy to shift.
i just got off the phone with the ford dealer around here and they dont sound too excited to help me out....they said if they could find the symptoms i was describing it would be at least 5 days of down time for me, "to order parts and repair" he said. shouldnt they have those parts in stock? oh well, im gonna call another dealer, i didnt like the way this guys talked...sounded too much like htye werent gonna do the work and try to blame the problem on something that wasnt covered by the warranty

I was pretty surprised when they said unable to duplicate but ordered the kit anyway. Figured I would have to fight for it to be done under warranty.

Mine also grinds sometimes when I powershift 1-2. Could this be related to the TSB? Being in Atlanta, I only noticed the 1-2, 2-3 problem, on the coldest of days which are pretty rare.
