Got my '06 GT!

Well, it's finally happened. Sold my '04 Mach, got my '06 GT today! Vista Blue premium with 5 speed. Bullets, Shaker 500, dark charcoal, and tinted windows.

Should have made this switch long ago........this new car is completely different in every way!!

Congrats Tom.

I agree. Although I loved the previous SN95, the S197 is superior, by far.

Too bad you sold the Mach though. Looks like you go through cars like I do. It's either a passion or an addiction. Haven't figured it out yet.

Congrats! Love my 03 Mach 5-speed, but my old left knee ain't what it used to be. A couple comparison questions:
1. How do the trannies compare, quality of shifting and especially clutch effort? Maybe I'll just have to get an automatic.
2. I know the performance numbers. But how does the new 3-valve FEEL compared with the Mach's 4V, stock vs stock? Same low-end grunt for routine driving?

1) Well, my Mach was an automatic, so I can't give you a comparison between trannys. However, I had an '03 GT that was a manual and it was kind of sloppy compared to the new car. I was worried about the new car's remote linkage that I've read about, but I can say that it doesn't bother me at all.

2) My auto Mach seemed to have more low-end grunt than the new car, but man, the new car PULLS much farther & harder into the top-end than my Mach ever did, even with the mods I had.

Overall, you wouldn't be disappointed by changing to the new car. It's much bigger (=comfort!!), smoother, and actually has some features besides power locks & windows. I loved my Mach- won 4 awards with it- but the only thing that I miss about it is the.............shaker hood.

Not to drag this on, but I just wanted to say thank you to all of you that responded to my thread. I am looking forward to discussions about these cars almost as much as I look forward to driving it. Went to a car show today, came home with a nice plaque! It only gets better from here!!!

I agree. Congrats on the upgrade!

Its amazing at what Ford has done to improve these cars. I was never a fan of the old SN95 platform, but once I saw these, I had to have one. And its great to hear former SN95 owners rave about the improvements with the S197.

Going from a MACH 1 to a GT is a DOWNGRADE!!!!!!!!

But I still think that the NEW stang is indeed AWESOME!
I just would NEVER trade my MACH1 for a GT.....iI would wait for the next SE model

Sure, when your talking SN95 to SN95. But, Sorry....you cant compare SN95 to S197. Its all a matter of opinion in this case however. Of course, when 98% of your opinions lean one way and all agree.....well, you know..

I somewhat disagree, well if you were going from a from a Mach to a New Edge GT then yes, but since the new Stang is all new from the ground up basically I think it's a lot closer then most would like to admit. We are all proud Stangers but I mean we do have what a 25 year old chassis? The GT is either close to or has the advantage mechanically with every aspect of the car. Mach has some sweet heritage with the shaker hood, comfort weave seats, magnum 500 wheels, stripes, etc....but the GT is styled all around the cars of the' 60-'70s so it's a push I think. No doubt though, our Machs do have a special place in the Mustang lineage.

Let me jump in here, since I'm the person that started this discussion with my thread.......

My Mach was an '04 Azure with an automatic & IUP. They made 280 of those automatic cars, and only roughly 75% of that amount had the the IUP package. I took the car to 5 shows this summer, and have 4 awards to prove it. It is indeed a rare car, which means alot IF you're gonna do 2 things:

1) Leave it factory stock
2) Keep it for 20 years

To say that a Mach is a limited production car is right, but that you see GTs everywhere you look though is inaccurate. Right now, you can't find the new GTs unless you order one, or luck into buying one on a lot, and even then most of them are marked up way above sticker. You can find Machs (such as my former) advertised all over the place. Why? Because the new car is so much more superior in everyway. There is no comparison. I love Mach 1s and have the utmost respect for them and their owners, but you're comparing apples to oranges.

My advice? Keep your Mach if you like it that much, and don't test drive a new GT.......... you may very well change your mind and make the decision that I did.

I live in the NY tri-state area, and let me tell you ...the new GT's are EVERYWHERE!

I have test driven a GT , quite a few actually, ..(was purchasing a loaded convertible)...... Stock for stock, the GT does not pull like the MACH 1, not even close!

Im sorry to hear that yiou had a slush box in your mach......that was a BIG difference in that car, about 15 ponies on the dyno to be exact

good luck with your GT, becareful driving, thats all that matters
