Got My Estimate

I'll try to get pics this weekend, I have to clear the garage for one of the cars. The new one is totally faded red, but I'm gutting the mofo, painting it, and making it mine. Aside frm a few very minor dents/dings, body appears to be perfect. Drove straight and felt very tight. No squeaks or rattles and bone stock. I looked under the hood and didn't recognize anything it was so stock. Original headers. The only negatives, aside from the work I have to put into it, is minor surface rust underneath that can be easily remedied and it has the dreaded Mustang lean, but I think it needs a suspension (shocks are ugly rusted). Oh, where to start?

That's funny, 'cuz the nitwits earlier said that $5-6,000 was too much for bodywork AND paint. Who is full of @#$% here and giving me bad advice and costing me a lot of $$$$? Seems like someone is looking to get me into a confrontational mood. No?

Funny you bring that up, actually. If the interior is gutted and painted, do I really have to use top end paint since none of it will be visible? I'm assuming the interior would be painted just to protect the metal. Probably a silly question, but, whatever.

i can't say forsure, but i used cheap paint to paint a set of kick panels and it was a waste, now i have to go back and do it right, you always get what you pay for...with cars.....with....wo......i'll stop

There's really no way I was going to find a clean, low mileage car around here for a reasonable amount of money. I figured in the end it would be better to just buy something with a clean body and get it painted. Either way, all my hardward has to be swapped over into the new addition. There was no point in spending $6,000+ when I had to do that. Besides, I'm skittish about spending any significant amount on these cars because there are a lot of BS artists out there.

If you are mechanically inclined in the slightest bit. I say buy a 4cyl 5 speed. With a decent body. And swap everything over yourself. Grab a few friends to help and you can be done in about 3 days tops. Then you are only out the price of the 4 banger. And however much you have to spend on beer and pizza for your friends.

Hold on, killer. To be fair, the bodyshop guy asked me specifically to point out anywhere I can get it done cheaper, and not in a challenging manner. He's trying to figure out how to cut down on the expense of the process on his side. He just resto'd a fox a few weeks before I brought mine in and said the windows were a lot of labor. Thanks for the link.
