Im looking at buying a 73 mustang coupe. Its a 302 with a automatic. Floor pans rusted out but the rest of the body is in excellent shape. He wants $800 for the car, motor turns over, but want crank.
First off, is this a good deal? What kind of work is it for replacing floor pans? What about the engine, is it a roller motor, flat tappet, solid, Im not sure. Also he says C4 is the transmission, I thought the C6 was the one from those years.

Let me know what Im getting into here and if I should. Ill post some pics when I get them.

I usually hang out in 94-95 tech, so I know about the 302, just not sure if its the same 302 Ive been working on for years.

The C6 only came with 4V clevo's in '73. As to whether or not the car is a good deal or not depends upon what you want out of the car. Are you buying this to fix up for a driver or are you looking for this car as an investment. Driver, yes-if you can do all of the work. Investment, no-you won't recoup your investment. You never mentioned the interior. Does it have on and what kind of condition is it?

He has new Mach 1 seats for the front. The back is in need of a little TLC. Dash pad is in good shape(no cracks) and the carpet is even pretty good.
Like I said the floor pans are the worst thing about the car.

Im looking for something to cruise around in......a little bit more beef in it than it has now. maybe a slight upgrade on cam...4 barrel heads and intake. Its got a new fuel tank and pickup and carb.
How much is the car worth?

That's not a bad price for the car, but I think the floor pans are expensive to replace. Plus if the floor pans are rusted I'd expect there to be rust in other places. Check the frame to make sure the structure is still sound. Check around the wheel wells for rust in the body panels.

The 302 is the same 302 that you've been working on for years. The car may just need its points recalibrated or replaced to get it running again. That or their is a some other ignition issue.

$800 sounds right.

$800 for a complete factory v8 car is a good deal. The floor pans are not as hard as everyone wants to make them sound. It's not a rare Shelby or anything so it would be a good project to learn to weld on.

Check the cowl (fresh air intake chimney at the base of the windshield) very thoroughly. Classic area for serious rust. Any repairs needed in this area will have to be custom fabricated as aftermarket replacements are still not available.

Well upon closer inspection found some serious issues with the car.

Windshield almost rusted through to the point of falling inside. Read window near trunk is rusted through. Drivers front fender has hole in it from rust.

Its just not very good for me. I am not a body guy and it would take me to much money and time. I cant afford to dump 3k into body work.
