Today I went down to AutoZone and got some 7/16 wheel spacers for $17.99. They make the rear look a bit meaner with my little 275's, but have a quick question, the lugs went in 3 1/2 full rotations before locking up, should I be worried about the wheels falling off? Or should it be cool.

i would just make sure that you torque them down to spec (95-100) and you will be ok.

Are they made of billet aluminum or steel?

could you at least give us a part #. I was thinking about spacers just to bring the wheels flush until I can afford my 17x10's.

It is from Autozone, I am not sure what they are made of, 7/16 is actually big, about a half inch. It is a Mr gasket Product, you guys should check them out, they made my car look meaner from the rear, I will get pics tomorrow. Better than paying $150 for the 3/16 spacers in MMFF.

I think I know what your talking about. When you put your wheel on and went to tightn' down the lugs they went threaded down 3 1/2 turns from when you put them on till they snugged down tight? So there was only 3 1/2 threads showing?

I'm not sure if you've checked out other threads on this topic, but you should know that 3 1/2 exposed threads is NOT enough to adequately and safely support your rear wheels. There are many horror stories from people who have lost wheels while driving due to the use of wheel spacers like the ones you bought. If your wheels haven't fallen off yet, consider yourself lucky.

Spacers are OK if you use the right kind. H & R is a reputable company that manufactures hub-centric spacers. Their spacers have another set of studs that come out of the spacers themselves. They also have an extension of the hub, which looks like a little lip around the center hole in the spacer. This is what the wheel is actually designed to sit on, rather than on the studs. There is too much stress placed on the studs themselves when a spacer like yours is used.

Be careful! Maximum Motorsports sells H & R wheel spacers; check out the pictures and you will see what I'm talking about.

Make sure your rear wheels are still there after a hard launch. It looks good but I wouldn't want to get in a accident over some wheel spacers. Nice stang by the way.

Warning about Wheel Spacers

Everyone, I had a set of H&R 1" (25mm) rear only spacers on my 03 GT and they caused my outer bearings to go bad. After 3 months installed the rear is now howling. The car is driven daily and is not raced. Just food for thought before you decide to spend the money.
