Yeah so ***** happens and it turns out I have to have knee surgery on my left leg. My 5.0 is a manual which means I gotta sell it and get something with a lot of leg room and an automatic tranny until my knee heals up which might take several months. It's all for the better though. I'll save up for a 5.0 Cobra while I'm healing.

Anyway, I'm in Illinois (Chicago actually) and I've never sold a car before. What kind of liability am I looking at? For example, if the brakes finally go out as a buyer pulls out of my street and gets in an accident am I at fault? Oh, and the car doesn't have cats on it (I didn't take them off, the seller actually lied to me when I bought the car on eBay).

I would think that as long as its understood that the car is sold as is where is with no guarantees or warranties, once the title is signed over and in the possession of the new owner, you are off the hook. Besides, I would recommend having the buyer come twice...once to see/pay for the car at which time he would take the title, and the second time after he has transferred the title (ownership) into his name and registered the car so he can then install his own plates and drive the car home.

NEVER EVER let someone take the car on your registration/insurance. Then you ARE liable.

The other option, if the buyer is relatively local or you are willing, drive the car to their location at which time you would sign the title over and remove your plates. Then the car is on their property and you have no responsibility from that point on.

What kind of surgery is it? I had knee surgery and was told that it would be 3 to 6 months before I would be able to drive a stick. 3 weeks later, I was behind the wheel. I guess it just depends how quick you can recover!

dude i severed my acl and tore all the cartilage in my left knee, was off my foot for about six months with my leg completely immobile (in one of those big stone cold Steve Austen type braces, they can be set to limit movement) so that i could get in the passenger side but could not even think about swinging my leg into the drivers side. few years ago i tore the cart. again. had it scoped on a Tuesday and on Thursday i was drivein my stick shift. unless its just going to kill you to see it setting there i wouldn't be so quick to sell, maybe a friend can give you a lift to work/school/wherever?

I have a torn meniscus. It's pretty bad as it's been torn for a few years but I just never had it repaired. I had the same problem in my right knee last year and it took a month before I could bend it and two months before I could put weight on it. Trouble is I'll still need a vehicle to get to band practice and to work and I need to have a lot of leg room. ALSO, I'm in Chicago and I only have street parking so it's not like I can put it in a garage for two months. I actually have a buddy who might buy the car off me which would be cool. But for now, I just gotta get something that's practical. It sucks but I mean it's not like I'll have trouble finding another 5.0 down the road. I think I'll start saving up for a '93 Cobra.

Yup, its all been covered. Have them sign a super easy contract, "I John Doe buy one ford mustang vin 1facp87587587 for the price of $4,000 on 5/17/09 as is with no warranty" The buyer signs it, and the car is his. DO NOT let him take your plates. Remove those, and once he signs the paperwork, call your insurance company, and tell them its sold and to cancel your policy.

Torn meniscus is the fastest recovery.

When i had mine done on my left knee, i was walking in 3 days and back to work in a week. I was in construction at the time too, so i wasn't taking it easy on it. It was pretty bad which is why i had the surgery. Kneed was swollen and any walking made it stiff to the point where i couldn't even bend it 45 degrees. So i had it operated on.

Then i tore the meniscus in my right knee playing basketball. It was a very slight tear. I didn't have the surgery because i noticed it was improving week by week. It took 6 months for that to fully heal to the point where i could bend and kneel down. And a year before I could feel comfortable playing any sort of sport where i had to cut and twist. If i could go back, i would have just had the surgery the week after the injury happened so i could have been back to normal in a few weeks. (not playing sports...but normal in terms of not suffering with it)

I used to live in the Chi, sign the back of your title, and write up a bill of sale for both parties to buy:
ex.
I steve shlongmiester sell my 1988 mustang Vin 66666666666666 to earl butplug for 2,500 USD. This sale is AS IS WHERE IS and the seller is not liable for any items past may 10, 2008.

then you both sign and put address's down

Oh and BTW my car does put down 800hp and my ASH TRAY DOOR WORKS.

JUST DONT TOUCH IT!!!!!!

yep, i tore my medial(sp) meniscus twice, once with the acl and again when i had it scoped a few years later. seriously dude i was driving my stick shift 3 days after the scope. i didnt take any of the pain killers so they didnt make me sleepy (t3 with codine is the devil). talk to your doctor about driving your car. mine told me that the motion of working the clutch would help keep my knee limber so long as it didnt bust the stiches.
not wanting to get ya hurt worse... talk to yer doc before you decide to sell...

I appreciate all the help guys.

My meniscus is pretty bad. I literally had the same problem in my right knee last year. I tore both of my menisci three or four years ago and never had them repaired so what has happened is the piece that's torn has been slowly but surely rubbing at the intact piece so now the whole thing looks like shredded cheese. Mustang 5L5, I'm familiar with the surgery you had and I was hoping to have the same one but it's way beyond that point by now. What they have to do is go in and stitch up all the tears instead of shaving out the torn part. If they just did the latter like in 5L5's case then I literally wouldn't have a meniscus left.

Believe me, I talked to my doctor about it.

By way, if you're in Chicago keep your eye out on craigslist for the car. What's so special about it? It's a Florida car so no rust. Hoping to get a good price for it. Might put it on eBay too.

Again, thanks for all the help guys. I really appreciate it!

Damn, that bad huh?

What about cadaver transplants? I heard they are making progress with those and it's becoming more mainstream.

Stiching up the meniscus is a long, tedious recovery. I can see now why you'd like to sell the car. I've heard of some people taking 1 year or more just to get to the point of walking normally again with therapy.

Good luck with it.

that was part of what had to be done when i tore my acl. had to keep the knee immobile for about 7 weeks then the fun started. my advice, take the T3 before you go to rehab, thats what i did, but im a :taco:.
good luck and a speedy recovery to ya.

ill trade you. 5 speed for auto lol. ill even swap them both haha. but i would NOT do that. sell the car out right if you have to. or buy a beater to drive for the time being.

5L5, cadaver transplant isn't really an option for us younger guys cause they don't last very long. Unfortunately, the best bet is to stitch it up. You're right about the one year thing. I had the EXACT same surgery in May '08 on my other knee and it's only just now that I have been able to start hitting the weights again with it.

I was planning on getting a beater for the time being until it heals but luckily my father stepped in and for a college graduation present is helping me out with a 2000 Jeep Cherokee with sub 50k miles. On top of that I don't have a job yet cause the economy isn't doing so great so I gotta turn my 5.0 into rent money.

But like I said, I'm really looking forward to saving up for either a mint '93 Cobra. A terminator Cobra might fit in somewhere down the line too. We'll see.

haha this thread has turned into a torn meniscus FAQ forum.

Hi. Is this the medical forum? I've had these itchy blisters on my wanker for a couple weeks now and would like to know if I should goto the doctor? I don't think its a big deal but all of my girlfriends keep telling me they don't like how it feels inside them. Should I goto the doctor or just find new girlfriends to boink?

Much love,
Mr. Lovelots
