For those who have bought Saleens with the infamous "torsion" diff option you might want to check your car to see if it actually was installed! You can guess my surprise when I puller the cover off and "stock" diff was still there. Factory shims and all. It had torsion written on the cover! What a day! Took it apart to replace a bearing and find this. Thanks god I have a nice auburn pro that is 28 spline to go back in it!

Wasn't the Animal. The Animal still has the Auburn Pro with 31 spline axles.

Scott.

Sorry to hear!

Actually, this is one of Saleen's best kept secrets.

If you are a gambling man most fox body cars got their 3.55's. However after the 94-95 S351's I'd say ... and I know these numbers sound ridiculous but maybe 45% of cars that were supposed to have a diff upgrade or gear swap didn't get them. That includes the MAX Grip.

Think about it, you get your new car and are so excited you may not even notice for quite some time until you actually care to crack that thing open. By then it's not too late but proving it came without becomes that much more difficult.

Oh yea,

Do a search over on mustangforums.com if you want.

I remember some Saleen newbies complaining over there too about this on even newer cars.

Now that you mention it I remember something like that. I should know that this stuff goes on. I remember working at a few dealerships when I was a teenager and seeing first hand what companies did and didn't do!

I hear ya.

I'm probably going to be getting my hands dirty with a car this weekend. How much should we wager on if the car has the MaxGrip in it or not. Book says it has it. Lol.

As if I don't have enough to be paranoid about with all of the wild fires raging around my neighborhood now I have to worry that my Saleen Cobra doesn't have the 3.55 Torsen differential it's documented to have.

Seriously, I know for relative certainty that my dearly departed 89-0408 had the optional 3.55 differential it was documented to have as it accelerated much more assuredly & the engine speed increased much more quickly than the 5.0 Mustangs I test drove with the standard 2.73 & optional 3.08 OEM FoMoCo differentials. Of course this is strictly seat of the pants certainty as I never actually had it verified via an inspection of the rear end.

As for my Cobra, I have no seat of the pants comparison nor have I ever had it verified. Perhaps whenever I install the T/A rear support cover I'll do so.
