OK so I just got home from college yesterday and I got back to working on the stang. I got the rotors ready and I have bearings and calipers etc everything ready to assemble the spindle. I did a small mock up just a few minutes ago and I ran into something that I think might be a problem. I sort of ligned up the brake caliper with the rotor on the spindle to see how it would look. when I did this I had the brake pad on the caliper just to make sure the clearances were good. now when I did this the caliper didnt sit all the way in the brake bracket. now here is my question. do the brake calipers from all fords in the years 1974-1976 or whatever that use the spindle like I am using have the same type of calipers?? I am asking years wise because I bought these spindles and had no idea what year they were from and I just assumed all the brake calipers were the same. If my question is hard ot understand just tell me cause I can take pics of what I am trying to ask you. Thanks for the help.

P.S. D hearne, I hope you can help me further on this cause you know a ton about this swap and sold me these spindles. thanks for the help.

Hey Golf, I think those units that Hearne sold both of us were 1978 units. Also it sounds like you are dropping the calipers in from the top, they actually slide in from the side. Let me know if I can help you with any more questions or part #'s.

i slid them in properly but the problem is the caliper doesnt rest directly inbetween the caliper bracket. It sits forward of it and does not go all the way to the back. The reason im concerned is becuase did they make different calipers for different years. I dont rememebr what year calipers I bought and now im gettin mad over here cause I dont want to have to rebuy calipers and spend another 100 bucks or whatever they cost me to begin with.

If could post a picture of the caliper you have I could compare it to the ones that I just put on my car to see if they are similar.

Did you put the spring (more like a curved bar) and its holding piece inbetween the caliper and the bracket?

Are you using the right hardware? There is a saddle type thing that supports a leaf type spring that puts tension on the caliper to hold it in place and if you do not use these pieces or put them in wrong then the caliper does not fit properly.
