Well finally, someone at Grant admitted to the crappiness of their regular horn buttons AND presented a solution!
This:

http://www.grantproducts.com/products/view/370/

combined with this:

http://www.summitracing.com/parts/grt-5668

and this:

http://www.summitracing.com/parts/grt-213

and you end up with a nicely functioning horn button that doesn't pop off into your lap on a fairly cheap wheel that looks like this:

Crappy pics with flash, but you get the idea. The separate pieces of wood are not as drastically different as the pics make them look! I went with the cheaper chrome spoke wheel instead of the brushed spokes for easier upkeep for a guy who "sometimes" drives to & fro the parts store with dirty hands! Still trying to decide whether to leave the hub cover black or make it nugget gold like the column. Open to opinions. Yeah, I know i need new carpet and instrument bezel. I'v got all needed new interior stuff except the carpet (trying to decide on the color, thinkin' maybe brown to hide the dirt, LOL) just waiting till I finish up a few "DIRTY" jobs before putting the new stuff in.
My $.02,
Gene

Looks great! I have always preferred the classic spoke design, and have it on all my cougar's as well.

One of my few 'bad decisions' was a Grant wheel. It didn't take long to get tired of a 'sprited' start causing the horn button to drop into my lap. I have seen a few solutions but none that seemed to work well enough for my tastes. Thanks horseballz!

Edit: Summit also carries the billet a little cheaper http://www.summitracing.com/parts/grt-5646

You'd think they'd offer up the upgrade kits FREE for anyone who bought their crappy product to begin with.

Thanks for the "How to" post. I could have benefited from this 5 years ago.

Poppy,
You can still add the parts to any "Classic" wheel, after the fact, without even removing the wheel. Unless you already tossed it and went the bigger $$$ for a signature or better wheel.

Yeah, too bad that in 68, there was no such thing as a good looking OEM steering wheel, stock, GT or otherwise. If I recall, even the Shelby had that God awful 2 spoke monstrosity!
