My wife was reading the current issue of a weekly newspaper from a neighboring town, The Goffstown (NH) News, when she gasped, and said, "This photo is going to make you cry.

I'm going out to the garage now to hug my '88 LX notch. Our Stangs can be taken from us so suddenly by cold, cruel fate.

Wow, that's horrible. How old is that? Oct. 12th hasn't fallen on a Tuesday since 2004.

Good catch! Must be a typo. It's the October 15th, 2009 issue of the paper...page A12, (back page of the front section).

It can happen. That's why I carry a fire extinguisher.

Being that it looks like a four-banger, chances are they were still running a stock 2G alternator and the wiring fried, sparking the fire.

That, or still the factory ignition switch that could catch fire.

HAHA, My alternator in my DD 91 LX went up in flames a little over a month ago, luckily we were at 711 and got a bottle of water and was able to put out the flames, would have sucked if a perfect (besides the bad alternator) 5.0 LX went completely up in flames! At least that lil thing was only a 4 banger vert.

I keep one in the 90 and one in my 68. I've had it happen twice in my 68. The second time is was a wire that touched the header and was grounding out. Still haven't figured out what happened the first time.

The headlight switch can do it also. I know from experience.

Luckily I caught them all in time that only replacing a few wires (well, the whole firewall forward harness in my 68) was all that I had to fix.

Yep, I keep one in the back floor board (cheap insurance). On the 67 I had one of the nylon oil lines laying across the intake manifold just decide to melt and spring a leak. I cranked it up in the driveway and a little spark from a leaky plug wire was all it took to ignite the hot oil. So I ran inside and grabbed a pan of dishwater out of the sink and splooshed it out.

Pretty scary though !

Once I get my car rolling I am going to put an extinguisher in it for good measures.

one time I had the positive cable going to the alt come loose and short out. it caught that part of the harness on fire. I pulled over and started dumping sand on it from the side of the road. never got the stain out of the paint though

I have been meaning to get one since my power mirror switch shorted and melted the center console a few months ago. Luckily I was in a parking lot of a store that had a dry chem extinguisher handy. That sucked.

Thx for the reminder. I'm gonna go get one this weekend.
