What shifter are you guys using? When I replaced my trans a few months ago I threw in a mgw with it. After that mine grinds when going in fifth. Didn't before with stock shifter/trans.

i'm pretty sure 5th gear doesn't have a synchro (thats what somebody told me)
Mine did it for a while when i had my MGW in, now w/ the stocker it never grinds

Mine does it also. I have a pro 5.0 but it was in for 2 years before the 5th gear grinding started. Does 5th have a syncro or not. I am going to have to pull my tranny to replace the TO bearing and was going to replace the syncro.

no T5's or T45's had 5th gear or reverse synchros, the 3650s (01+) are fully synchro'd

So what can cause the grinding? I have an adjustable clutch quad, can that be the problem? Is it the clutch ? I plan on replacing the clutch anyway but I am really confused now.

actually im sure that the t-5 in our cars has syncho's, i had replaced it when i did my rebuild. also, thats classic symptoms of a worn synchro. If it is, it will get worse, grind, then pop out of 5th eventually. Just be to be sure tho, check your clutch, make sure its dis-engauging al the way

Cobra spec T5's have a blocker on Reverse. Others have reported seeing a blocker on reverse in other T5's - I think they might have had [aftermarket] HD WC T5's, which often incorporate aspects of the CObra and Z-spec box.

5th gear should have a synchro. You guys would know if you didnt. OD often uses a soft synchro though (like bronze, instead of fiber).

This is all interesting, I've NEVER heard of a 5th gear grind....I've always just eased it into 5th for the simple fact that if I have to shift quickly to my last gear, I've already lost the race

You might check the fluid level. My cousin replaced the 1-2 blocker ring and input bearing in his, but didn't get enough fluid in it. It ground 5th for a week or so before he filled it up, and now it does it every time.
