Hey everyone,

My 1989 GT grinds when I shift it at a normal speed into first and second. Every other gear is perfectly fine and if I put the car into first and second slowly it does not grind at all. Any idea's of what it could be? Also, any ways to self diagnose what the issue is.

Thanks in advance.

Every time or when warm it goes away? Best guess 1 & 2 synchronizer. If the transmission oil has never been change (89) you could give that a try got nothing the loose.,

You're shifting into 1st gear while the car is moving?

When I say normal speed I'm referring to how fast I change gears not the speed of the car

I’d suspect the synchros. How does the clutch engagement feel?

Clutch feels good, I agree it's probably synchro's.

Sitting at a stop with parking brake set, put trans in nuetral and let the clutch out.

now, press clutch in and immedistely go into 1st. Does it go without grinding?

Now, do the same thing but this time press the clutch in and count off 10-15 seconds and then shift to 1st. Does it grind?
