Rubbing noise in all Gears while driving?

Please bare with me, new to this site and this car. Just had a new 5speed tranny installed in my 94 GT. All seemed fine for about 100 miles... now when I cruise in any gear, I hear/feel a rubbing noise, like rubbing sandpaper together. If I put the car in neutrel, the sound goes away, only under a load and does it in any gear? Any help would be graetly appreciated.
TIA!

What kind of transmission? T5? Tremec? Was it just rebuilt? Did you get a new clutch?

Does it grind during shifting or grind driving in gear?

Tremec, Brand new, while driving in gear only. Sorta sound like sand paper rubbing together or dragging something... Just started after 100 miles of driving since new.

Thanks.

Recommend putting it up on jackstands to check for somehing rubbing the driveshaft. t's difficult to give an accurate armchair analysis from your desricption of the problem.

Does it sound like it's in the tranny?

Does the sound change under load, cruise, decell?

Can you feel it in the shifter?

Basic stuff like that eliminates a bunch of different problem sources. More info is better.

Sounds like it is coming from tranny area...

Sound only changes when I put the car in neutral, present at all other times and conditions.

There is vibration coming from the shifter under load.

Putting the car on stands is a good suggestion-thanks!

I hope that there is atleast fluid in the tranny.

A friend of mine had a local Ford dealer install a long block. They gave him the keys and he drove off. A couple of blocks later the motor stalled due to the oil pan being bone dry.

I want to hear how this turns out.

Fluid level is ok.

that's exactly what i was thinking....

mine made a sound similar to that when the exhaust rubbed against the drive shaft
there's always gonna be a little noise....how loud is it?

Not very loud, but feels like I am almost dragging something (but I am not). Sorta feels like a friction noise.

Thanks again!

Now that I think about it my 87 LX 2.3L tranny makes alot of noise. I have not changed the fluid since I bought it.

Maybe now would be a good time to try switching to a higher quality fluid? Synthetics? Might help.
