grinding noise when steering

I noticed this problem a couple of days ago. It does it at low speeds and a stand still. Is there anything I can do like grease the V joint. Its not horribly loud but I just dont want to make it any worse. Its sounds like a popping/grindinc. thanks.

You sure it's not the power steering pump whining? Our pumps are known for whining at low speeds. There's no easy way to fix it, tho some folks have had luck flushing the fluid out with new.

definitely not a whining noise. more like a crunching/grinding noise. I was told it could be the ball joints. I did get new wheels which had bigger tires so I think there is more stress on the suspension...

is the sound coming from the engine bay, or from the steering column?

mine did something that seems like it might be similar to what you are describing ... it was coming from the steering column. the wheel would sometimes be hard to turn ... it felt like there was a bearing in the column that had gotten sticky and was getting ground down or something. eventually it was no longer hard to turn, but it had gotten loose. i didn't feel like dealing with trying to take it apart to see what the problem was, so i decided to get a new steering column.

*edit* lol re-reading your response, it doesn't sound like my situation any more, so never mind

its not hard to steer but it definitely does it when I turn the wheel.
