ok, so heres the deal....my e7 heads have a valce tick on the right side....im short on cash and need something that will be reliable yet not hurt my performance. So I have this set of new E6 heads (the ones with the heart shaped valve chambers). Ive heard these hurt performance a little from the E7's....so my question is this:

if i get a grinding wheel can i just grind the heart parts out of the chamber? if so, must they all be ground exactly equal? if i dont grind them equal, will my compression be different in different cylinders cause the car to run funny???

thanks in advance.

Those E6 heads are decieving, what looks like a smaller chamber is actually 4 ccs larger than the ones on the E7's. The E6 chamber is deeper than an E7. This is also the reason that 5.0's with them don't have valve reliefs in the pistons. The valve seats are 1/8" higher above the deck surface. Just swapping them as is will drop the comp ratio about a 1/4 point, removing more material will drop it more. As is, the E6's help the bottom end torque, but cost you 25 hp on the top end. If you're in that much of a bind, just smooth the sharp edges in the E6 chambers, and remove the thermactor bumps in the exhaust ports and use them as is. You'll also need different spark plugs, the E6 head uses a different plug, same one on the GT40P heads.

The lifters in that engine were old when I put them in there. Remember, you didn't have any money then either and I cleaned out an old set of throw away lifters. There is likely nothing wrong with you head but I would not doubt a bad lifter one bit. Those things were so crusty I had to soak them and bang them consistently to get the inards out of them. Get some new lifters before you go to the trouble and expense of head gaskets to find the problem still there.

thats what i cant decide, which problem it is. I know this, i can put a screwdriver to my ear and on the fuel pump and I can hear the rattling ticking....place the screwdriver on the timing chain cover....nothing.....i can hear it just in the engine, and if you crawl under the rear, you can hear the rattling coming straight out the right exhaust pipe....the exhaust pipe is what made me think a valve was worn out...would you be able to hear a lifter out the exhaust?

valve ticking

1st I'd take off the valve cover and check if you can see a problem. If the valve is causing the problem it is most likely going to be at the stem to rocker interface. If you can't see any abnormal wear check if the stems are pretty close to the same height If the ex valve is much higher .040" or more you could have a bad ex valve seat(sunken or actually eroded)If that is the case you have to pull the heads. I think it is more likely that you have a bad lifter as the e7 heads don't have that many problems as I described . If the valve stem tip is worn a new valve is only about 7-10bucks and the rocker would be 10-20. If you can get a machine shop to only replace the valve you could have them back for
alot less than another set of heads. Good luck

I thought you would be home from chuch about this time. I am still saying the lifter. The ones in your car are crap. They were a stop gap to get you on the road. I thought you got rid of this car?

yup, i had just got home from church.

I'll try new lifters when Im home for a week in august. Cuz whatever it is is bad enough that the car doesnt run right. Wont even spin the tires.

And no I didnt get rid of it? Get rid of my baby? ive never even really tried hehe
