Will the old school iron gt-40 heads with a lunati 51014 fit on a 86 mustang that has stock pistons.
Worried about piston to valve clearance.
The camshaft specs are 500/510 with 284 / 294 duration.
No flycuts in stock 86 pistons.

Thanks

Nope, those pistons usually have serious clearance issues at .450" lift or thereabouts, most folks usually end up with a stock HO cam being as big as they can go. It wouldn't be so bad, but the pistons are flatter than kansas during a tornado. :rlaugh:

As has been discussed many times before, lift is not the problem, it's duration.

But my guess is with that much duration you will have piston to valve contact, but as with any engine you need to check yourself when you put it together. It's very hard to give any definitive answers to this question because everybody's case is different.

Seven years ago i put gt-40's and Lunati 51014 and 1.60 rockers arms on my brothers 1986 GT......
It ran awesome and with no problems.

If anyone knows for a fact about the edelbrock rpms on a stock 1990 block with a average size camshaft please help.

I was gonna ask about a set of edelbrock performer rpms with 2.02's on a stock 90 block to see if it was safe.

I asked the gt-40 / lunati question to see what kind of answers i would get in these forums.

I think many people could give you educated guesses, but I'm sure everyone would hate to tell you "yes it will work" and then you buy the parts and put it all together, start it up, and you now have a nice door stop. Valve clearance questions get asked a lot, and the best answer always given is when someone reminds the asker that the best thing to do it just do it and check, unless the cam manufacturer can give you a better answer. They have more resources to answer questions like that.
