I am looking to get a little faster in the 1/4 and on the street till I do my turbo 331.Would I see any gain by sticking a Gt-40 intake on the car with the mods I have listed below? If so,how much should that swap help me gain?

Personally I would look at one of the other available intakes that will be good enough for the next combo. The GT-40 is limited since you really can't do much to the upper.

I'd look at a TFS Street Heat, E-brock Performer or even a Cobra. Or hold out till you do the next motor and get a Holley, TFS-R or a RPMII

I'm sure it would. The thing you need to think about is how restrictive it is going to be. If say you get a larger TB with the GT40, you are going to have this huge amount of air going into a stock engine. It is going to be restrictive because of the stock intake and exhaust valves. You need to adjust the size of both the valves to componsate for the larger intake manifold. I would suggest to stay with what you have until you get the 331.

The stock 5.0 HO intake manifold is a restriction even with the stock heads. You will definitely see some gains switching to a cobra/explorer/gt-40 or any of the street type intake aftermarket intake manifolds.. Which one will be best? Well each should give you similar results. Chose the one you can get the cheapest or has the best looks.

So you think that the cobra would be just as good?I think they're like 400 compared to the gt-40 @ 600.I could also port the cobra later when I do the engine and turbo right?

I picked up 13 hp on a basically stock motor by swapping to a cobra intake and 1.7 rr's. 99.9% of that was intake. Oh, and yes...you can port the Cobra upper and not the GT40. See my sig. Latest dyno: 236 hp/286 tq.

You really only have 236hp with those mods? I thought you would have at least closer to 250. Thats surprising. What is a stock GTs hp?

When you do the turbo, you will probably have to get a different intake other than FMS ones anyways because of the smaller throttle body opening. Might as well get something you are going to be able to keep for a while... and be able to port it later if needed. Edelbrock, Holley, Trick Flow is what you should stick with if that is the case. The Typhoon is suppose to be a close copy of the Edelbrocks. Some people mention that the casting isn't as nice but its basically the same thing.

I'm not really into the trick flow look but could deal with it.I am thinking of the cobra or the edelbrock now.I would like to ssee a gain right now but I really don't want to switch intakes again down the road so If I could get one now and just have it ported when the time comes that would be cool.

Look at the stuff that actually adds power, not just how big his signature is. I had almost the same combo and made 240 rwhp and 289 rwtq, so his numbers are about right on.

Stock=180 to 190 rwhp. Yeah, 236 was all I could make. I'm a little lean because I need to have my chip reflashed after the intake mods. Right now I think I'd do better without the chip at all.

Im purchasing a 5.0 with GT40 heads already on it. What is my best bet, get rid of the GT40s and go with some edelbrocks?

Yeah I was only really looking at the CAI, TB, exhaust, and the cobra intake. I was under the impression they were like 205-225 stock. Didnt mean to offend anyone if I did.

OK I gotcha now. I have always been told that 205 -225 is a number Ford threw out there just to make it sound good for them. My one buddys dad who has a 93LX told me the same, around 190. Whatever, it feels good driving it.

Without having heads, it would be hard to get 250rwhp.

look it depends on what RPM range you're going to use the car in. If it tis going to 7000rpm strip only the gt-40 wont work as well. If this is going to a high horse power street car/ dailly driver the gt-40 will work graet up to 6000rpm. any high RPM problems the intake has NA will disappear when boosted. also you wont loose your bottom end or mid range power like other intakes. Plus the gt-40 is still the best looking intake on the market. check out the mags and you will see that alot of people still sue street level intakes on 347's because they wont run the motors much past 6000rpms. remember it the highest average hp & tq that win, and run best not just highest peak hp &tq.

They are basically the same, but the GT-40 looks a lot better. There are better intakes out there however.
