While I realize the OP has made their choice, I guess I'll chime in with my take, not that it matters.
While I realize that V6 models account for most sales, to me a V6 pony/muscle car is just an absolute oxymoron. It's completely self-defeating to buy a performance car, and then buy the economy engine, which doesn't really afford much more economy than the V8 in all truthfulness.
I realize the engine makes 300 hp, but a 300 hp V6 is still a V6 and will always be; in other words it will forever be severely limited in potential, sink like a rock in terms of resale worse than any other model in the line up, and at the end of the day it's still the most basic of the basic, with the low-end wheels, fascias, interior, etc. In other words, when you buy the V6 base model, it just doesn't look nice when parked next to a GT or other V8 model. It looks like what it is--the undesirable base V6 model.
Personally I would take my lowly '98 GT I just bought over a brand new V6 any day of the week. Maybe it's slower, but at the heart of my fenders there is the throaty American V8 legend and the sound of 40 years of history coming out of the pipes out back. No V6, no matter how powerful, can compare with a throaty RWD V8 rowing through the gears on an open winding road at sunset. No V6 will ever give you that feeling, sorry. That my friends, is living.
That aside, I find it just insane that people are willing to spend upwards of $30k+ for a V6 Mustang. That's some serious cash for a base model which will barely be worth $15k on a good day in 3 years, compared to a GT that will still be going for $20k or more. That's actually getting up into/near BMW 1/3 series territory.
I dunno, all other things aside, the fuel economy isn't that great compared to the V8 (a common misconception, then again I've grown up with nothing but RWD V8 so 20 mpg or whatever was always plenty healthy in my eyes for what you get), and it's just an insane price to pay for a base model Ford, once you put any half decent options on it.
That said, the OP will probably love their car, and I hope he does. It's a nice car, and a nice package. Just not for everyone (nor is the GT).
