I am considering buying some OEM SVT GT500 wheels. My questions is: with the wheels being 18X9.5 what type of caliper and rotor upgrades can I look forward to doing? Will just about anything out there fit inside the GT500 wheels?

Just about any big brake kit will fit with these. Wish I had done that

I was considering going with the aftermarket chrome GT500 rims.

Has anyone gone from the 17" base GT wheels to the GT500s and if so was there a big difference in ride quality (good or bad)?

My main concern with upgrading (beside the $$) is the weight/rolling-resistance of the larger and wider GT500 wheels and tires compared to the smaller base GT wheels.

She'll track more on the highway due to the wider tires and you'll have alittle more road noise. They're heavier too, so you'll lose alittle performance, but (for me) the attitude they gave my car far out weighed the penalties!

I originally had the split spoke 17's.

69mach1-409,
I've been on the fence about the GT500 wheels too. Nice looking ride. They give the car a whole new "attitude". Well said. Btw, any plans of lowering the car? That would take it to the next level.

Thanks!

I'd love to lower her about 1"-1.5" but my driveway, along with acouple others I have to enter/exit, make it impossible for me to do so. As it is I have to enter/exit on an angle to avoid hitting her nose.

That's too bad... Time to move! It's for the better good of your car. Get your priorities straight, will ya?
Sorry to hear that, that would seal the deal. Lowering the car just gives it that extra notch.

...2 more years. Have to wait till the 'other half' finishes her Phd before we go anywhere.

Thanks for the pic. Sonic blue is the same color as my car so I can see how they look. I was thinking of going with the chrome ones though and lowering mine with the Eibach sport kit.

FWIW I think it looks great the way it is.

My car's a GT w/ spoiler delete so it was a great example seeing yours at the stock ride height with those wheels...and my driveway is VERY steep so lowering could easily be a problem for me as well. It's good to know the car still looks nice with those wheels and no springs.

I've read mixed reviews about AM's rims. ...just make sure to 'check' them throughly prior to mounting any tires.
