GT taillights

How do I remove the lens cover (cheese grater) from an '87-'93 GT taillight?
I want to paint that part to match my car since it seems like theyre rare in my color.

I really wanted to do the '79-'82 lights but was told in another post that its alot of work. I know LX and GT lights interchange.

I'm pretty sure you can't remove it, you have to tape up the lens and and cut out the part you want to paint

Only way to do that is tedious masking. I did it, then ended up doing lx tails.

Damn. I swear I remember somebody saying they took these apart to paint them.

I guess Im the only one that doesnt care much for the plain LX tails. I want something different but not those gay aftermarket ones.

ifyour looking for something diffeerent look at like the 93 cobra tails. and the older 4 eye tails. they have grid lookin deals in them. they look cool too.

the light up parts are recessed, go to a craft store, buy a rubber paint roller and roll the paint on very lightly.

I bought a set of 85-86 lenses and bought some 1/8" black pinstripping. 3 on the top half and 3 and the bottom and you've got an instant set of 93 cobra taillights. You could even get the pin stripping to match the color of your car and add your own little flare to it. Custom but not ghetto!!!

Thats something I might consider. I bid on a set of GT tails on ebay earlier and the seller said theyre darker red and not bright red so they might be the color of my car but I cant tell from the pics.
