over the weekend i was talking to a buddy of mine who just finished building a 306 with H/C/I and was saying how id like to do heads, intake ect for mine sometime in early 08...so we got to talking and i mentioned the GT40P heads are what i think id like to go with...why you ask? because.... reasons. being..the first being the flow well the second they are a cheap head and last but not least are easy to find...

so as of now this is the combo im thinking off...this will all be cheap but yet make a decent power..

mildly Ported GT40P heads (ported by my buddy)
1.7 RR (not sure which brand yet )
Explore upper and lower
65mm TB egr ect

what headers work best with P heads?

i found nice write up on the gt40p heads and thought i would share with you all as i know some of you guys use gt40p heads and im sure there are some of you out there who would like to...

FRPP headers, or Mac LTs work well. Our 40P car with very similar stuff done, 3.55s, and not much else went 12.17 @ 110. I have been saying for years and years the 40Ps will run hard when done right.

i dont see why everyone keeps saying "use p specific headers" i have stock hearers on my p heads and use small diameter 90 degree boots and they dont touch anywhere. and work great. the ONLY problem i have is you cant get to #6 plug to get it out. unless you do like i did and heat the area up right after the flang and push it in about an 1/8th inch

Agreed, those FRPP headers are nice...

25thmustang, can you go more into detail on the P headed car that ran 12.17?

stock bottem end, stock cam, 2 degrees retarded, GT40Ps with 58cc chambers, valve job, and better springs etc, 1.7 rockers, cobra intake, 70mm TB, 75mm MAF, pulleys, 19lbers, shorties, prochamber, catback, 3.55s. Car was going 12.8s. Then with rev limiter launches, 12.5s. Then with better driving 12.4s. Then with my dad behind the wheel 12.1, and with me running it this weekend, my guess is 12.0s or better if the track sticks.

sounds like a strong setup....im really going to push this and see if i can get some heads later this year then get them ported.....what would the advatages of a valve job do for me?

Absolutely. Around here it's like the junkyard 12 second combo. It's gotten to where people will try to sell a car and if they say "it's a 12 second Mustang" someone else says "is it an Explorer engine?"

Me and a friend of mine swapped an entire short block, and then took the whole top end off another engine and swapped it into the car/onto the short block in a single night. It all depends on how much you know and if you have the right tools for the job. EFI makes it a little more time consuming but it's doable in a weekends time if you know what you're doing and you don't run across any snags.

Yeah we did the head gaskets on my car in about 6 hours and we were REALLY fartin around and BS'in the whole time, and that included a broken head bolt, a trip 15 miles away to Walmart to get a propane torch, and then going back and heating the sucker up to get it out.

I did mine in 3 nights, working a couple hours a night. Once you do the pedals and wiring it is as easy as a tranny in a regular 5 speed which is nothing hard at all.

The GT40 stuff is great for cheap performance.
