gt40p heads and tfs stage 1

IS the Trick Flow Stage 1 cam too big for GT40P heads? I plan on getting some GT40P's and just clean 'em up do a valve job and new springs. Run with a Cobra or Explorer intake, and the usual bolt ons with 3.73's. This is in a daily driven car. Just looking for a little more power to have fun. I was looking at Ford E-cam, Crane Powermax (220/220 @.050 .498 lift) which I believe is the same as E-cam, or the Trick Flow. I dont want to get crazy or spend the big $$ on high power parts for a car I have use to drive to work.

I run a TFS Stage 1 cam in my p headed combo and it gets a full weight AOD vert down the track at 14.0s@100mph. You can see the other mods in my sig and what the actual times are. Works well with the p heads but I would upgrade the valve springs if the they are the stock P head springs.

hey

I have the "E" cam with my gt-40 P's , I believe the Stage 1 and E cam are similiar in specs . Very happy with the combination .

hey whats up man. i noticed u have some what the same set up as i do. i have gt-40 heads upper and lower gt-40, roller rockers 1.6 and e303 cam. just have a slight prob. i left the 19lb injectors and seems like it need more output. how did u feel ur car before the injector change?

19# injectors are all you need. You won't need 24's till over 300 hp. If you're fuel starved, the limitation is the small fuel pump in the gas tank. that's my next mod......I've got basically the same combo...gt40p explorer motor, ported explorer intake, 1.7 rr's, and an HO cam. Tfs going in very soon.

bro runs a gt40 explorer motor with a tfs 1 cam, and 19# injectors too in his 86 ttop, and he's hitting low 13's untuned and on his first two launches ever with sticky tires (learning how to launch)

A cam can never really be too big for any set of heads, but it can be too big for stock or mild springs if it has large lift numbers. As far as being a good match, the TFS Stage 1, Crane/FRPP E303 Cam, etc. will all be decent OTS cams to match your street performance goals. So long as you have single springs with dampers good for the lift of the cam, than you're rocking.

either cam would work fine , as suggested by someone else , the TFS 1 cam will be pushing the stock springs so you might want to upgrade the springs with that cam , I have seen lots of people get by without it though

A little off topic but anyway, I dont have the $$$ for a Dyno tune, and there isnt a Dyno for probly an hours drive from me; so is there a good place to get a mail order tune for running GT40P heads, Explorer/Cobra intake, and TFS stage 1 cam with supporting bolt ons? Im looking for something better than just a Hypertech, Jet, etc. basic tune.

P's and the Stage 1 with a 5 speed and slicks, WILL put you in the 12s if the rest of your car is up to the task (such as gears, running properly, you knowing how to drive etc).
