Is there enough of a difference to spend an extra 420 on AFR165 or 280 on TFS when you can get some aluminum GT40X heads so much cheaper? Doesn't the stock GT40 lower intake only flow 210 cfm anyway unless you port it?
I am looking for a head that has the best all around torque band for daily driver and good performance boost, but I am just not sure the GT40 irons flow enough without some port work.

Tim -
Click on the link in my signature for my mods. It is a very nice, streetable, reliable package. I didn't build it for max power, but because I like to get in my car, turn the key and drive it without worrying about how it's going to run.

If you haven't already, please check out the Northwest Fox Body Enthusiast Group. We're planning a Portland/Seattle meet in June near Chehalis.

afr's or the trickflows are the way to go. The afr's have a much better valve train package out of the box.

Yes, the AFR and TFS heads can yield an extra 25-30rwhp with matching intakes.

The AFR 165 and the TFS 170 would both deliver those qualities but the choice of cam can really make or break the whole combo.

Thanks for the info guys, it kind of confirms everything I have ready so far anyway. As for a cam, I want to stay street legal so it would probably be the E-cam...but I think the TFS-1 cam can pass emission also if I am not mistaken?
I think I will go with either the TFS or AFR that is lightly used, that way the expense is probably 125 bucks cheaper than the gt40x anyway.

I'd use whatever set you can get at the best price.
They all should goto the machine shop for a valve job anyway.

While i use TW's, i'd like to say that for the record the fastest stock 302 h/c/i complete street car i know of, used gt40x's and for the right price i wouldn't hesitate to use them, considering if you shop well they can be had used for a few hundred less than the other 2.
