yeah and Motor Trend tested a Livernois 06 GT @ 700rwhp, 900+ tq only running 12.9

what's that tell you about car mags? they have the hype on the cover to sell you a mag, that's it

I don't really look at ETs from magazines anymore after Hotrod only got a 13 second pass from an 03 Cobra trapping 110. But the Vette is still out trapping the Shelby which has more power albeit weighs a hefty bit more.

But again, the 2 cars on the same track, in the same conditions and the Vette got the best of the Shelby.

Right on... I wouldnt trust a big company car mag like C&D for performance numbers. There is no way that Livernois car isnt capable of better than 12.9. C&D could only muster a 12.9 out of the Terminator Cobra's as well. Now, with the correct drivers a certain Mustang mag got a 12.6x out of the Terminator, bone stock. C&D (or another like them) also only got a 13.5/13.6 out of the Mach 1's if I remember... seems some people on here have hit low 13's bone stock.

There is no way the GT-500 will only pull a 12.9. That thing has got some damn power, and I dont see it weighing near 4100 lbs. My 4x4 Cherokee with a lift kit and 30" mud tires on heavy ass aftermarket wheels is under the said weight of the GT-500...

I don't put a lot of stock in numbers, they mean nothing. You can put some hump that's never been to a track and run a 15 in a Maclaren F1 for #%@$ sakes. Mu buddy ran a best of 14.3 in his 03 Vette. I'll take better driver over supposedly faster car anyday. I can't wait to smoke C6 and viper ass when I get my blower on. There will be no mercy around here. Screw Corvette, long live the pony!

Trap speed speaks volume about the horsepower:weight ratio of a car.

To hell with anything anyone has said about the 500. When it hits the street, then we'll start to see what's for real. IMO the power should make up for the weight, I mean, that engine, given it's numbers, should be freakin' sick. I dunno how to explain exactly what I mean, but....take two different engines, that make the same hp, and, alot of the time, one will move a car better. I have a good feeling about the power plant in the 500, and I think with just a few $$ it's gonna be ****ting all over C6. Ofcourse i'm biased, love my stangs, period, but I'm not ignorant, and appreciate what the C6 is, but...it's too early. Damn those numbers, wait till they hit the street, and start owning.

I cant wait until somebody here with the $$ grabs one up....with that iron block and all, rip her apart a little, and make some straight up retarded tq.

Doesn't mean squat when you pass through the traps behind me. Happens all the time. Just because the car has the potential doesn't mean it is "faster". A car is only as good as it's driver. I believe in real world racing, not bench racing. Different driver, different day, different story. That's why each magazine write up will come up with different results.

and it always will, you can't compare a GT500 to a vette, you just can't.

different designs, suspension geometry, drivetrain layout, seating... yada yada

the vette is a full blooded sports car MENT for handling, while the mustang is a cheap fast 'all' arounder

vette was bred for a race track, the mustang, well, was bred out of a 4 door sedan

heres the reason one of the two identical engines will move better than the other. weight
in a straight line, there are three main factors to determine acceleration. power, weight, and gearing. many few cars have all three components and are worthy enough to be called a supercar. the GT500 has the power, im sure it has the gearing even though i havent seen the ratios, but it def doesnt have the weight.

thats the whole point though, it shouldnt need a few more $$ to beat a C6 that is 1)less hp 2)less tq 3)less money.

and just to keep going with the whole "ford is ghey for making the GT500 weigh so much", think about the Lamborginis. even the V12 AWD models weigh ~4,000 lbs. i dont understand why ford couldnt cut some weight here and there.

Blah,Blah,Blah!

Souns like a bunch of Jealousy to me

A few mods and the new GT500 will WALK ALL OVER a Z06 and a Viper. For A LOT LESS money to boot!

Picked up the July 06 Motor Trend yesterday and the have some specs listed for the Shelby's.

0-60 4.5 0-100 9.6 1/4 mile 12.9@116

That's on F-1's with 3.31 gears and only 8.5 psi of boost!.

Also Ford says that the GT500 makes 500hp@6,000rpm and 480 lb-ft@4,800rpm

The only thing I agree with is that the car does weigh a bit much for a muscle car, but some of you are also forgetting that the 05+ Stangs are on the LS platform and that the GT 500s engine weighs (according to Ford) 175 more #'s than the 4.6l.

I know that, but people just cant accept that the Shelby got beat by the Vette. They're complaining "Evan Smith this, Car and Driver that". I love Mustangs as much as the next guy, but the Vette is in a different league to the Mustang.

Since when does it really matter so much anyways....? The 500 is a badass car, and who the hell likes vettes anymore? I'll never spend that much money on a damn car period. I'll pick up a 03-04 Cobra and spend a few bucks and be done with it, simple as that. When comparing cars, I think the price should be a factor, and to hell with a vette and it's price, especially with it's suspension technology from the mid 1800's. Supercars arent built like that, the mustang is a different kind of car, bang for your buck, american muscle, vette....not my style. If we're going to compare supercars, which the 500 is not nor was meant to be, yet the vette is hailed constantly, where does the Ford GT come into play? For not much more $$ you get ten times the car, period.
Haha, I sound like a little bitch, /me stops ranting and lie's down.

Word, it's a supercharged tank with a 3-Link, I think a CTS-V can out run it in a turn

I'm a little upset about the weight of the shelby, and the weight and size of the new body style, for that matter. I like the way they look, but I'd rather see them make the mustang smaller again and make something that is actually NEW. Keep the power of the 3v, but lose about 500 lbs. But you have to give credit where it's due, these new stangs are the fast factory GT's built, and the GT500 WILL BE the fastest factory mustang ever. OH, and for just over $40,000, the vette doesn't touch it. Nothing does.

no one will ever see a GT500 for $40K, but that (MSRP) is the only thing that beats the GT500, and maybe storage

Yea, but what American performance car DOESN'T sell over the sticker price? It will still be cheaper than a c6.

I don't understand by Ford used an iron block, did the block out of the 03/04 Cobras break easily?

I'm actually happy to see the GT500 run that close to the C6, although I though it would be in favor of the Stang.

I still want a C6 z06 though...

I don't think it's that hard to grab a truck motor, then slap on an Eaton.

03-04 Cobras used an iron block as well. Cheaper to use, and John Coletti said the previous blocks they were using met "catastrophic failure".

I purchased my '03 Cobra in July of 2002 for sticker (MSRP).
