GTO exhaust

I was gassing up today, when I heard deceant sounding exhaust, coming down the road. I was kinda shocked that it was a gto. sounded pretty good, really loud!!!!!!!, and then he let off of the gas. it sounded like his car was falling apart. my exhaust makes the usual popping for the first couple of gears after start up, but this was horrible. sounded like an x-pipe, literally connected to coffee cans full of m80's. anybody else heard any new setups on gto's? if he likes it their is something wrong with him.

Maybe he was running straightpipes (ie - no mufflers)...

its common among GMs. every ls1 ive ever heard (50+) has always sounded horrible to not so bad when they are on the throttle, and absolutely disgusting when they let off. if it was a gto with the hood scoops, its an ls2, 400hp 6 liter vette motor(i think). the ones w/out hood scoops are the ls1, which is basically the same motor as the f-body cars and vette c5. ls1s are great motors, make lots of hp, but sound like ass

Just beat one on the highway tonight (my first GTO) and have to say, it was pretty loud. It also was fast, it was a four way race between me and my Cobra, a Magnum Hemi with CAI and Exhaust, the GTO and a Mustang GT with stickers all over it.

It finished like this

4th place = Stickered up Mustang GT (2000 I think)
3rd place = Magnum
2nd place = GTO
1st place by a rather large margin (go figure) was my moderately powered Cobra. thank you SVT

the only one I raced had the hood scoops, and it would have been close, under different circumstances. depends on traction. oh well 12000, vs 30000, I'll take what I got. he had a huge advantage, and I still pulled on him, up hill, once in the power band, pretty much started off in second, before I saw the gto stuff on the back. I'd do it again.

I saw on Speed tv tonight how the GTO was taking the 05 Mustang GT in every category. It also beat the GT in the 1/4, no times though, the guy just dropped a little white towel and they took off, but the GTO won.

With that, I'm wondering how the 99/01 Cobra's would fair against a GTO on the street

mines a 97 with basically just gears, the race was before the wide tires even, I'd do it, I don't know what kind of mods can be done to the gto's, but stock, I would be ready for a close one. still 400 hp compared to my 305. oh well I'll let you guys know what happens next time. and I did see the same show!!!
