They still look like crap, but they do have some nice seats. The 04s arent a problem, but the 05s will probably be able to keep up until you tweak the snake.

my boss has an 04 GTO and i am very impressed with it. the looks arent that standoutish as a lot of people would like, but i prefer the sleeper look. the seats are very comfortable and unlike a mustang they actually have useful backseats. the handling, shifting and overall feel of the GTO is much better than any mustang ive driven, including terminator cobras. true they could use more power, and thats what i like about the 05s. also something weird is that unlike a mustang you dont have to slam the doors shut, you just kinda push and they close and seal without any issues.

If you can trust the Car & Driver test between the 05 GT Mustabg and the 05 GTO, the new goat won't be Cobra competition.

05 GTO vs Terminator:

13.3 verses 12.8 for the 1/4 and 19.6 to 130mph verses 16.0

Cobra wins

yeah the last I heard, and read was that they run with mach 1's. for your basic numbers. All right SO i'm sitting at a stop light, getting ready to go up a long hill, looks like a grand prix behind me. I take off from the light normally in first Maybe it was the off road pipe that did it, but anyways as I'm shifting to second, only around probably 20 to 25 mph maybe like three grand. And this grand prix hits the gas, changes lanes, before I noticed the gto,and L7 badges. So hear I am going into second gear, still up hill, and decide why not. So I got on the gas we are talking about a gto already past me and accelerating, but I couldn't catch up, until we hit traffic. a car in his lane, I'm not sure how fast we were going, but I was atleast redlined in fourth, or somewhere in fifth. He hit the breaks and I passed him. So here he is again behind me smokeing his tires at the next light, so I reminded him I could go through the first two gears spinning. Then we split up. Might want to think about that a little. and I atleast have some hp from the exhaust, and gears, maybe not much yet, but a cobra non the least. figured I would share. chris

I would say off the line with traction total different deal!!!!!!!!!

I'm sure an '05 vs '03'-04' Cobra would be a drivers race but the snake would have a bit of an advantage. From what I've seen those 400hp GM's are 400hp while the 390hp Cobra is actually 425hp.

The Cobras got more hp, more tq, better curve, geared better AND is lighter than the GTO unless your driving a vert 03/04 Cobra. Then their about equal in weight.
03/04 Cobras will still slaughter the 05 GTO's.

There are two 5.7 liter GTO's, one silver, the other red. They do sound good.

you guys do realize I am talking about a 97 cobra, with mods below right? He had a huge lead, like your just driving and a gto out of no where, changes lanes, while flooring it probably, and drives by still flooring it. When you see GTO L7. remember your just driving along! so how long does it take just to realize the gto, decide to race it and your starting up hill, not even into second gear, way out of the power band. I did gain quite a bit on it, just never passed it, until we hit traffic, and he slowed down. I would definately say it would be different with some deceant traction, I do still have factory tires as well, and from a dead stop. It just freaked me out I haven't seen anything do that since I bought the cobra a year ago. I wouldn't worry supercharged guys, until they get one. Or nos even. It was definately brand new and black. happy hunting, chris

I had one run in with a GTO and one COCKY A** driver!!! I am so glad traffic cleared so my "stock looking" 96 Cobra could smoke him. And did I ever smoke him bad!! It was the greatest feeling. When he rolled to the light scratching his head, I laughed, he asks what I have done. He couldn't even hear my blower...thank the car gods for SQ Vortech superchargers.

Only "run in" I've had with them was back in the spring at a dyno day. I was there first with a new GTO there next. He was a bit suprised when I got a bone stock dyno of 372 rwhp. He said he was hoping for around 350. I asked what pontiac says the car has, he said 350. I didn't bother explaining the difference between flywheel HP & rear wheel HP, so just waited for his #'s. He put down 306 to the ground. He then had the nerve to say "at least I don't have to worry about one of those supercharger thingys". So since he had another pull coming up I said rather loudly I will listen to the next pull from behind the car to hear the exhaust, since this will be my only time behind one of these cars.

The dyno operator cracked up.

Only one run in so far. Fla. Turnpike on-ramp not really taking notice, I thought that I was behind a Honda or Mazda. I then noticed the exhaust note and realized it was a new GTO. Entered Turnpike after ramp at a 35 mph clip and holding second gear. He hammers it and I respond. He was an extremely easy, leizure pass while making a very conservative 3 to 4 shift even after he got the "car in front jump." Got smacked by the wife so I let off. I also drive an 03 vert and had a passenger. He was solo.

I do have a 2.8 and bolt on's.

While I was very unimpressed with the performance of the car, the looks were absolutley pathetic and generic. I honestly thought it was an import. This coming from an enthusiast that appreciates all modern American Muscle cars, no matter the manufacturer.

I figured I should chime in since you are talking about the GTO. I have had a few chances to race Cobras. Most of them non S/C and haven't had any problems outrunning them (my car is has a few bolt-ons- 334 rwhp and 275 Nittos in the rear). I have had only one run in with an 04 Cobra. He said it was "slightly modded." He walked me from 60mph and I know it would happen but win or lose I will oblige a race as long as it is safe to do so! His car sounded great! I need more mods to play with the big dogs! H/C, ATI Procharger, or an STS turbo system are my big choices. The Maggie S/Cs for the goat are causing to high underhood temps and that is retading the timing and pulling power so that may be out.

That is for the 350HP GTO. The new 400HP GTO was probably what you raced and reason why you got smoked so badly. It's one fast Car! And for $33 grand, 400 Hp is a bargain. Sounds kinda like the bargain that 03/04 Cobras are.
