Even a wussy .22 is like 120 db. Next to my M1A socom with the crazy muzzle brake it's probably 150-160 db.
Typically with guns though you get what you pay for. Not always, but usually. Glocks are pretty cheap and they are good quality and work very well. Not the best trigger pull or ergonomics in the world though.
My personal sidearm is a Sig Pro 2340 in 40S&W w/ Federal 135gr HydraShock Selfdefensse rounds. Its nice living in Az, open carry here. 1911's are also a wonderful gun if your willing to shell out the 1000$+ for a good one like Kimber,Wilson Combat.
