gunna build a 408. any recomendations? and what pistons should i run for nitrous?


You can get those numbers with an out the box AFR 205. Trickflows are an awesome head but the change in the valve positions require twisted valve reliefs in the pistons. It also limits the kind of rockers you can use. (shaft rockers) You also must figure out what the max lift of your cam will be because that 310cfm means nothing unless your lift is over .600 or wherever they tested the 310cfm max lift at.

Ill prob. be getting AFR 205's for my 383....for a 408 you would need a 225 or a Victor head to see that 408 shine.

On the other hand like said above i rather have a stock 351 bottom with H/C/I then a 408 stroker with stock heads!!! The 408 stroker kit and machine work will equal just getting some heads and a spider intake!

Theres alot wrong with this post... First, the guys building a 408, he dosent have pistons yet, so its nothing to buy a set of pistons with the correct valve reliefs. Second, you can use any rocker arm on a trick flow head that you can use on an AFR. Ive got comp RR on myne... a shaft system isnt required.

Dollar for dollar and HP for HP, the trick flow CNC 205 outshines the AFR 205, bottom line, the CC is way more efficient with the altered valve location. There is a reason that trick flow heads dont like alot of timing... its cause of the combustion chamber. Its a better design, an inline valve head cant compete. Cylinder head performance is more than flow numbers, and i recall the TFS 205 being better than the AFR 205's in the lower valve lift numbers also

Oh didnt realize this man didnt have a motor built. Seemed that he wanted to do a somewhat budget build seeingf how he didn't want to pop for the $1800+ head option. if you dont have a bottom end in the blok then by all means go Twisted wedge!!!
 
I'd recommend if you get DSS anything, make sure you do all the machine work and assembly yourself. If you know where to look, you'll see why I don't trust DSS for assembly. And I personally like trick flow. Which is not to say AFR isn't top notch. Do your research and you will find it's a 50/50 split as to who thinks each is better.
 
since the search button isnt your friend, i'll lay out a badass 408 combo for you

start with your 351 block
Get a forged crank, good rods, forged pistons, 11:1 compression ratio
Trick Flow CNC ported 225cc R-heads
Custom cam
Victor 5.0 or Trick Flow Box R-intake
Supporting fuel system

this is assuming that you are running pump gas, and the 11:1 compression would be good for the sauce. but i dont know what your trying to do with the motor so it makes it hard for people to tell you what to buy without knowing your intentions... but if i built a 408, it would look something like that
