I have a Stock 2003 Mustang coup 3.8 V6. My Catalytic Converters were plugged up and I was short on cash so what I did was take off my pipes and gutted them out !! Put everything back together and obviously my service engine soon light now stays on. My question is; by doing all this will it some how mess up my motor? I was told that I should get a chip for it to correct the gas and air mixture. Is that true? After gutting the Catalytic Converters out I did gain a few horses and a little better on gas mileage. I don’t really care much for the sound it now makes kinda sounds like a 1971 ¾ ton Chevy on a farm,
But I can deal with that as long as I’m not hurting my engine. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Than you
Kevin

Ok, so, um, you didn't look into any of this before you gutted the cats...?

You aren't thrilled with the sound of an uncatted V6?

Where did you come up with this great idea...?

Might as well have left it alone as to pass emissions, and to keep that gnarly tin can of a V6 exhaust subdued.
