Well, I don't know what sparked this interest but I have been thinking about going to a turbo or twin turbo setup on my car instead of the supercharger. It would be a good project for this winter. What do you guys think? I have a few questions and want to know which way I should go.

1. Should I stay SC or go to a turbo setup?

2. If I go turbo what turbo should a look at getting, I don't know much about what is out there? It should be stated that I already have the intercooler in place, I have extra tubing, couplers, and t clamps so I think that I would be looking at building my own kit instead of spending the money on a pre fabed kit. What do you think as far as that goes?

3. Give me some pros and cons of going turbo.

4. Finally should I go single or twin turbo? pros and cons of both!

Thanks guys and any help is appreciated!:SNSign:

I vote turbo x 2. Just makes sense. One for each cyl bank. Turbo's use less parasitic drag than a blower to make power. I would think a couple of T3's would to the trick. Does someone make headers for that? I know that most guys use shorties on opposite cyl banks. I'm not sure I like that method.

That might get you started.

That's a good find. I don't know, but that seems pretty cheap to me  Makes me want to buy it right now and start fabbing up :D

On my car, it drives like a stock car. But when the rpms get higher it starts moving. I don't have that mustang sound, but instead you get another nice sound. I still have an open dp, but it should sound better when I get the exhaust ran.

If you search on turbomustangs.com you can see lots of peoples builds. Most people go with a master power t70 because they are cheaper and are good. I don't know if that will be good for you though.

Blackvert - No it was joke that I just haven't changed yet

95cobraguy - I didn't, I have always had this supercharger on the car. The work I just did was a H/C/I and built bottom end. Seems to me it is a perfect time to put on a turbo.

the only thing that sucks about a turbo is that you completly lose that great mustang sound. plus it can be super quiet unless you run a vented wastegate but then that would sound like a really big exhaust leak a some rpms.

turbo lag is pretty much non existant now a days as long as you pick up the right sized turbo for your combo

if i already ha a blower already, i would just stick with that. what is the reason to switch? what are your full and final plans for the car?

Id stay with the SC more reliable
How do you figure? There are plenty of reliable turbos out there. The trouble is when people don't know what they're doing when they put a turbo on a car. Then it gets problematic.

If you are seriously thinking about it, you should buy Maximum Boost by Corky Bell.

It's a good overview and tells you alot of what you need to know to plan a turbo system.

go turbo.

Lag isnt a problem, and a turbo isnt more unreliable than a blower...cars come with them from the factory.

Heres the deal: A turbo will have you at full boost by 3,000rpm and stay there.......
A turbo takes away less power to make power, leaving you with more output.
You can probably use your intercooler, just need a BOV.

Also, definatly go big single....get a new one. If you go twins it just ends up being more work.

The Dark Side has my vote, but just use a single, alot less piping.

Not as much as you would think. A single has more a complex hotside than a twin setup...but a twin setup allowys you to still run a true dual exhaust. The reason I fabriacted my twin setup is because it was easier than a single. Merging the hotside on a single can be tricky...and is very crucial, while merging the coldside on the twins is cake.

As far as the mustang sound goes...mine sure as hell still has it. The single setups end up loosing it a bit as you merge two headers into one...and then back out to two.

In the end though either setup you wont regret. It wont be cheap however...and you might as well start saving for a dart block right now. :nice:
