I had a dealer change my R&P too. Didn't help at all.

I don't have any pics but what I did was loosen the 2 bolts/nuts holding the rack assembly in place. I unbolted 1 at a time and removed the bolt, then there is a sleeve that I removed. Once it was out I lubed the outside diameter of the sleeve and reinserted it, then gave the bolt a good coating of grease and bolted it back up. I also coated the surface where the rack mounts to the frame with some of the lube before putting each side back in.

I got my car as a left over also in May 2005 with 000,043.0 Miles on it. I had it for a couple weeks and developed that creek when turning right only, could also hear it a little when I was driving. Took it in to Ford and they replaced the whole power stearing rack, definatly didnt have to do that, a week later it was back so I took my car back then Ford put some grease and re-tourqued the bolts, as I thought they would have to do, and it hasnt happend since. All they have to do is grease the fittings and they wont have to waste our time and theirs

my 04 had the creek. it was the steering shaft rumbing on the long tubes making the rack move out of place. had to readjust the whole thing.

I have both the creak and the tranny whine. I always thought the creak had something to do with lowering my car without the isolators. I guess not. I thought the whine had something to do with my UPR shifter, guess I was wrong there too. I have yet to take it to Ford to have it looked at, but I'm not all that concerned about it.

I've had it since new. Easiest way to hear it is park your car next to a wall on the drivers side. Rev the engine in nuetral with the clutch out. It makes a whine. push the clutch in and it's gone.

Right.. I always hear it at drive thru's or when next to the median barrier on the highway with the windows down.. Mine has gotten progressively worse with each launch at the track.. Didn't start until I started going to the track.. Wonder what caused it?

good so im not the only one with these probs, im still trying to decide if ford is that dumb where they cant fix this, who ever fixed the creek and just greased everything when and how long ago did u do this?

I was the one who done it on my Son's '04 GT, it's been close to a year now and it has not came back.

Mine has been 2 years now without it coming back.
Get them to check the Engine Craddle Bolts.

I've got the creek but I suppose it's nothing that serious being that everyone else has it.

The whine is just the throw out bearing which is normal in Ford cars. My 01 V6 5spd had the whine pretty bad as well as my neighbor's 01 Cobra.

Count my '04 in for the creek, the A/C clunk/near stall, and the loud window regulators (the clunk noise when the window hits full down position.)

I've heard some has sprayed a penetrant type lube into them to get rid of it, but I can't see how that could be effective enough to totally get rid of the noise.

It's really not that difficult to take each side apart to lube it up good with a long lasting lubricant or never seize.

I hate that crap. Mine came back with the stereo all jacked with, a nick on the ground effect trim below the driver's door (large nick) and grimy handprints on the windows.......toads...

I don't know if this is your problem, but my steering wheel used to creak at low speeds - finally I shot some lubricant into the grommet where the steering column shoots through the firewall and the creaking stopped in a few days. It came back the following year, so I lubricated it again and it went away - haven't heard it since. I can't remember if I used wd-40 or silicone.

Anyhow, this is awfully simplistic so I don't know if it's what you're experiencing but it's worth a shot.

Go with whoever is going to actually work on your car to reproduce the sound. Have him stand outside the car as you re-create the creak. Also, don't tell them what is wrong--play cool and say you "think" it's something like that or "a friend's car had the same thing wrong with it". I cannot say they would love to be told what to fix directly. They would probably beat the pi$$ out of your car when you left just because you were a know-it-all. Just my 2 cent$.

This might be a bit late, but they replaced the steering rack mounts on mine and it fixed it. Take it to another dealer. Mine was very noticeable at parking lot speeds, turning left. 'Creaking' is definitely the correct term, not a squeak.
